i really don't see this improvement of being a good thing for the area. whenever we have things like this they get abused.

The back of the Ormidale Block on Hastings. I'm intrigued by the cladding. I think the way it looks right now it's the perfect transition between the newer and clean brick of the SFU building on the left, and the old grotty brick on the right.

Looking good! I'm still kinda confused about the way they formed that lower facade, tapered down to the loading bay. Seems like the third and part of the second floor above the loading bay could have been extended to the alley.

Hopefully a future renovation will fill in that large area and put a restaurant or cafe at the back of the building instead of just an obtusely large loading bay.

Those dumpsters look great and don't take away from the hope of utilizing alley space in Vancouver at all!

Vision Vancouver and others always like to throw around the "European" tagline for positive development styles, yet one thing I have never encountered in healthy alley / pedestrian spaces in Europe and Japan are massive dumpsters everywhere...

The cladding looks like Corten Steel. Should develop a nice stable rusty appearance and weather well.

Isn't that the plan for the space?

The entire building was leased out as a co-working space, hopefully the retail spaces weren't included in that deal.

Maybe a stupid question, but what is the planned function of that building? Is that a storage or residential?

From the website "The building will provide future tenants with the opportunity to lease light industrial, office, production, and showroom space". Unless we've missed something, it's a way off; the developers haven't even submitted a permit yet.

A new library in that area - that's nice! Looks also pretty nice and helps improve the area around it.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes; $72 million for a gas station. If we all banded together we might be able to get a presale in the basement. If Jimmy owns the White Spot plot he might make enough to name a few more hospitals. Anybody remember this Chevron a few blocks away? It wasn't that long ago, honest! I like that! Maybe not a whole block of it, but it works really well with the existing building.

Ah i see thanks! I hadn't seen that render before. I still think I would rather see full floor plates though.

Pattison Group only owns a tiny sliver on West Georgia where they have their billboard. Toigo owns the White Spot

There's a new 21 storey rental tower proposed for Robson at Nicola across from the Empire Landmark. 127 units over retail; not a rezoning, so it could get approval in the summer. There's a bit more on the Changing City blog.

1335 Howe model from ONNI Twitter today
(must be the alley side, but completely misrepresentative because it fails to show a mid-block location):
