This article is about a push by Soccer NB to have a franchise in the nascent Canadian Premier League, alongside such cities as Victoria, Hamilton, Ottawa, Quebec City and possibly Halifax.

If the league gets underway, they would likely start playing in about two-three years. The annual cost of running such a team would be $3-5M/yr, and they would need about 7,000 fans per game to make it profitable. They would play at the 10,000 seat Moncton stadium at U de M.

It would actually be good to have teams in both Moncton & Halifax for this league. The cities are close enough (2.5 hours) that there would be a natural rivalry between the two.

In 2016, the writers at Stadium Journey reviewed 761 different stadium experiences. We renewed our love for many of the venues that have consistently been on our best stadiums list. We also found some new destinations that we had either not known about or previously did not appreciate as much as they may have deserved.

The Halifax Mooseheads just posted on twitter that the Scotiabank Centre made #39 of the Top 100 Stadium Experiences for 2016.

The list includes some good company (#36 Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park). Only the Winnipeg Jets, MTS Centre was higher on the list in Canada (#5).

This was previously posted in the Halifax local forum by q12.

I think it is a good picture of Scotiabank Centre in Halifax (previously the Metro Centre), which has served Haligonians well for the past 40 years. It currently seats 10,595 for hockey and 11,093 for basketball. A large majority of the seats are between the goal lines.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. Have you been following the Coyotes situation at all? I think you're just pulling shit out of your ass.
The owners have NO MONEY.. They're committed as long as someone can subsidize the team. They will NOT move to Talking Stick. The problem isn't the lack of an arena or the location of it - it's needing someone to cover their losses. Gila River arena was praised as a great arena and a good location and the owners said they're committed to the area and that it'll work. The very second Glendale got out of the lease agreement (which included an a ridiculous arena management fee), all of a sudden Gila River arena isn't good enough and they need to move elsewhere. Talking Stick doesn't work because the Suns have no need for the Coyotes because they have no reason to split their revenues. A new shared arena doesn't change anything. So the Coyotes owners are begging for someone to build them a new arena just for them - which isn't going to happen. The bill to get funding for it is being rejected.

So much stupid indeed.

The proposed arena was expected to cost approximately $400 million with the team paying roughly half that total and the rest would’ve been generated through public-private funding.

I agree talking stick isn't a great option but the suns arent looking great asking for public funding for a new arena they arent willing to share with another major pro sports team. So that's a good thing for the coyotes.

Lets be honest. They will stay in Glendale over the next 3-5 seasons and eventually end up in a new arena somewhere in AZ. Some Indian reserve was going to build them a new arena to at 1 point

Should SB1149 fail in the Arizona Legislature, the Coyotes still have multiple remaining options for staying in Arizona. Late last year, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community announced that they were looking into constructing a 20,000 seat multipurpose arena south of the Scottsdale Pavillions area that could serve as a new home for the Coyotes and the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.

Either way if you believe after all this crap that bettman is gonna let them leave with commited ownership you're on crack.

That is an early start. Beginning of April. The normal high for Toronto is only 8C and the solar envelope isn't that good yet. Looks like they did some great work.

I am not an expert in sports fields maintenance but it seems to me that there is a big difference in the condition of a field before the winter vs. after the winter. Even if the weather conditions on Nov. 25 and April 10 might be exactly the same.

I can just look at my lawn at home to know a litte about the difference between early spring and late autumn a little. Right now my lawn is barely turning green, slightly lumpy from frost, and still has snow and icy patches. At the beginning of November it still looked quite good since the cold hadn't come yet. It was surprisingly green as well, although that is noot the normal for late autumn.

I was really just commenting that the turf looks great, really green, quite healthy. I'm sure they've got everything to make that easier: heating, covering to keep it warm, keeping the kids from building snow forts on it all winter.

You're literally the first person I've seen that calls for more seats in a new arena.

Yes, I understand that the arena is old and in a perfect world should be replaced, but Saskatoon doesn't have any money and neither does the province. A new arena downtown would require hundreds of millions of dollars for the arena plus improvements to downtown and the transit system, and that's something they don't have. If they can't do it right, the only other option is to renovate the current building to keep it going until they get the money to build a new one. That's not the ideal solution, but it's the responsible one; if it's at it's half life then Sask Place still has plenty to give.

Tim Hortons Field won't be hosting the Grey Cup anytime soon. Council won't support a bid until all of the stadium deficiencies are resolved and that could take awhile. It's currently a legal/court issue.

Ottawa: 2017
Alberta: 2018 (both Edmonton and Calgary have stated interest)

Then for some pure conjecture on my part... 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 will likely go to (in no particular order) Toronto, Hamilton, Regina, and the Alberta city that doesn't get 2018.

Toronto was granted a faster rotation as part of its purchase agreement, so it'll have to be one of those again.

Regina will want to show off the new stadium (after the breaking/settling in period).

Hamilton will want to finally get one back there... I'm thinking the stadium lawsuits/court battles should be handled by at least one of those dates, no?

And the other Alberta city clearly will want one since they're trying for 2018.


Montreal is the only city that is likely out of the running for the foreseeable future, unless they figure out a way that allows the Big O be used in late November.
