I don't know how else to convince you, but the measuring tool on Google Earth is 99.9% accurate (Google Earth Pro is a free download btw). We use it for our measurements at the office when official building stats are missing. measure the height of the building - the height of the height above sea level. If you doubt its accuracy measure a building that you know the height for certain (due to a zoning regulation for example) and see if it matches. It always does.
Also it's quite obvious when you're standing under the Canada Life that it's not a simple 30m building. It's neighbour, is actually 29m tall and its clearly shorter. Its 10 storey neighbour across the street, built at the height limit of the day of 130 feet matches it in height quite clearly when you look at the photos as well.
