Station not at Moodie Drive? How does this facilitate bus transfers going north and south? Of course, we have to build a temporary mega transfer station here, out in the boonies.

I absolutely don't get this.... No matter where the station is placed, DND workers will need some sort of shuttle to get to HQ... why not just terminate at Bayshore, which should be a much more "comfortable" place to transfer.. could kill some time in the mall if necessary

-cheaper capital/operating costs for buses
-cheaper to build new transfer station at Moodie than to expand Bayshore for a large transfer station.
-less impact on surrounding community
-closer to DND
-better location for maintenance and storage facility
-2% increased ridership for Confederation Line

yep, walk to DND, of course. Save on buses that would be needed from Bayshore.

But it is more about transit operations and not passengers, and when it is about passengers, it is about passengers coming from other parts of the city, and not those living in Kanata and Stittsville.

It is always easy to write justification bullet points for a decision that is already made. I am sure there is something similar for the airport shuttle, one being the $35M carrot being waved by the airport authority for the airport station that few will be using.

The station needs to be somewhere where there is enough land for a bus loop within a fare-paid area to facilitate transfers from Kanata/Stittsville buses to the LRT.

In the long-run, it is best right under Moodie Drive.

If this mega transfer station is going to be temporary, why are going to all this effort for fare paid zones etc.? We are already starting the process to extend the line beyond this point.

Stations belong right at (or under) major streets and roads, not to be offset from them.

And with Number 2, it really shows that the only purpose of the Moodie extension is for DND. How does this efficiently handle Kanata bus transfers?
But the bigger question, where does the line go from there to Kanata? Or are we going to build another little spur permanently?

More significantly: with an overly long and entirely unnecessary walk to connecting buses on Carling, with an attendant overbuilt piece of crap BRT station.

Correct, those are the three remaining locations for a possible Moodie Light Maintenance and Storage Facility (LMSF). The list was narrowed down from 8 possibilities. If the cost of adding a LMSF at Moodie is deemed too expensive or too challenging, it will be deleted from Stage 2. Instead, use of the Baseline Tunnel will be maximized and the Belfast Yard will be expanded to its ultimate capacity. When the line is further extended to Kanata, a LMSF will be looked at for out there.

The BRT station currently in the plan will be constructed at the planned location, where the pale rectangle is at the split of the rail line. That station will be in service until the Transitway extension is converted to rail in the 2020-2023 time period.

The LRT station will, likely, be either immediately east or immediately west of the underpass of Moodie Drive. The LRT will ultimately be extended to Kanata along the north side of the 417. That extension is the job of another study that is just getting started; and is separate from the EA that deals with the conversion of the Bayshore to Moodie BRT extension. The Kanata study would look into a LMSF out at that end of the world if one is not added at Moodie.

New bus facilities will be added around the new LRT station to provide a Fare-paid zone for transfers and a large bus lay-up area.

At this point, I think such a connection would be a waste given that RioCan plans to demolish the shopping centre and transform it into rental apartments and ground-level shops like their proposed Westgate Shopping Centre overhaul.

The Lincoln Fields reimagining is part of a company-wide effort to update its old-style malls in major Canadian markets with access to transit, including four sites in Ottawa.

The firm, the country’s largest mall owner, is making a major bet on highrise rental, eying about 3,000 to 4,000 new units in the next five years.

Here's the bit about the connection, though:

RioCan executives have already met with Bay ward Coun. Mark Taylor. He said the initial talk is about taking the mall down in phases and concentrating on a link — by skyway or pathway — with the future transit station, off the eastern end of the property.

Good Day... re:LMSF-Moodie....
MHO - #2 provides an opportunity for a people-mover solution for DND (both short-term and long-term post-DND-expansion) and the 2 care-facilities that are being shoe-horned.
Otherwise, all 3 seem rather 'odd' / 'impractical' / 'inadequately situated'. Just MHO.

'Due diligence' first before Stage 2 LRT funding decided, feds say

No one wants to say for sure if the federal budget includes Stage 2 transit money for the City of Ottawa, but everyone seems confident it’s in there somewhere.

The feds aren’t ready to confirm if the city will receive $1.15 billion for the rail extensions, but Mayor Jim Watson has been optimistic about the discussions between his office and the office of Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi.

Sohi’s spokeswoman said in an e-mail Thursday that the federal budget released Wednesday “provides the sources of funding for us to meet that commitment” and that the feds are working with the province and city on the “necessary due diligence.”

The city expects a federal announcement by May so it can move ahead with contracting the $3.3 billion in LRT and diesel train work.
