Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

The north side of this is coming along, the ramps look basically complete aside from paving.

Hard to tell what if anything is happening at the moment, I assume they are working under the 401 as there is no visible work going on from the 401.

Really not sure what to think about the VMP improvement/change. Are they still talk about extending the road to the South/Wilton Grove?

It's not talk, but the official plan. ESR passed it will be extended south to Wilton Grove as a Parclo A3 not free flowing interchange.

Took Wonderland to Decker Drive yesterday

Asphalt paving is underway at 401/Wonderland. Dump trucks / rollers nearby.

Makes me think line painting is next, and not sure if there's anything left after that.

Paving is done. They need to paint. They've put in the backings for the signs and info, but no signs yet. Lights haven't been tested on on any time at night I've driven there either. Middle is still blocked off, and they are finishing pouring the high wall in the middle.

Noticed today that quite a bit of earthwork has been done at the VMP and 401 interchange. The ramping up to the overpass has been started and the ground prepared south towards Wilton Grove. I assume the plan is to twin the overpass to allow 4 lanes and install lights.

Starting March 27 VMP south to 401 east and 401 east to VMP north will close for 6 months.

Starting in May VMP south to 401 west and 401 west to VMP north will close for 3 months.

Saw the signs as I drove through earlier this week. Interchange is being expanded so VMP can run south of 401, but this will include 2 new traffic lights on VMP (same configuration as 401 / Highbury).

Plan detours accordingly, but know the nearby interchanges will be busier because of this.

-----

What I don't get is the city wants to ultimately make the VMP a freeway, but they're adding two new lights with this interchange 'upgrade'. That means they will have to reconfigure the thing again in the future to make it free flowing. Seems like a free-flow junction should have been made now.

The trumpet design that currently exists is free-flowing.

Here's a design in SimCity 4 I made that keeps the VMP free-flowing connections for southbound to 401 and 401 to northbound.

Obviously this would be much more compact in real life.

Veterans Memorial Parkway expansion done and open to traffic

Veterans Memorial Parkway, originally known as Highway 100, will turn 40 next year.

-----

http://www.lfpress.com/2017/11/10/veterans-memorial-parkway-expansion-done-and-open-to-traffic

The newly expanded southern interchange of Veterans Memorial Parkway is now open to traffic.

After a year of construction, the $22-million project is finally complete with the removal of the pylons blocking the eastbound lanes to Hwy 401.

It's the first major expansion since the roadway, then known as Highway 100, was completed in 1978. The highway has been expanded to Wilton Grove Road, about a kilometre to the south, with a full interchange at Hwy. 401.

The parkway extension is another step in a long-term plan to improve London's 401 access, including the completed rebuild of the Wellington Road interchange in 2008, the construction of the new Wonderland Road access in 2015 and a rebuild of the Highbury and Colonel Talbot Road interchanges.

-----

The Highbury-401 rebuild is on Ontario's highway program, and it involves rebuilding the Pond Mills and CNR overpasses as well. Highway 4/401 doesn't have a date yet.

I'm so not looking forward to that Highbury project. It's supposed to be 3 years long, and Pond Mills closed at the 401 for the construction season each of those 3 years. And I believe in that there will be significant times when the ramps from Highbury to the westbound 401 will be closed, meaning Bradley will be another nightmare.
