Don't get your Hopes up on this one. Five guys has no immediate plans for an further expansion into Canada --- especially the East Coast.

Franchise opportunities are only being offered to International locations right now.

It's too bad, because I've said for years, a Five Guys would make an absolute Killing here in St.John's !!!! Their sales model, is so suited for this market. St.John's and 5 guys is a match made in Burger heaven !

You are right. According to my research, Five Guys are not looking for any franchises in Canada, aside from the locations they already have. Another one of my favorites, Carl's Jr., are only looking for franchises in Ontario and Manitoba. I was interested to find out, however, that Papa John's, Taco Bell, and Popeye's Chicken, are, in fact, looking for franchise opportunities in Newfoundland.

And Popeye's was just sold to the owner of Tim Hortons/Burger King so the likelihood of it showing up here has increased.

I don't say this without a lot of consideration.. but Popeye's chicken may be the best low-end fast food chicken you can buy. And their biscuits are absolute addiction.

Unfortunately it'll cost an arm and a leg in NL. Plus with competition from KFC and Mary Brown's already firmly cemented in the local (somewhat struggling?) marketplace, I do not foresee Popeye's succeeding here, maybe.

Unless they somehow force someone like MB out of the Avalon Mall and then build a standalone in Dannyland, then — with a solid foothold — I could see them doing well here.

Re: Taco Bell and Five Guys: I love them both, a lot. Too much in fact and I'll be happy if neither ever appear in St. John's.

Five Guys on west 43rd may be the best bang for buck non-artis — farm to table — burger you can buy in Manhattan (take that, shake shack!) and their fries.. oh god. mouth watering.

And Taco Bell is just good ole' cheap an crappy food, which is what McDonald's used to be. Now if you actually want to feel full after a feed of McDick's it'll cost you about $30.00 for two people. Same with Harvey's and Wendy's. Taco Bell's cheapness would do well here if they too, could keep their prices down.

1,000,000 % AGREE on all points !!!! Were we separated at birth or something ?? God, if Taco Bell, Five Guys, Popeye's or Papa John's comes here ---- I'M DOOMED ! God help my back account, and my waistline !

I can only assume that Burger King on Ropewalk Lane will be opening any day now. At least a soft opening. It's completely finished from the drive-thru signs to the uniformed employees inside. I can even see cups in the cup holders and the promotional posters are in the windows.

I can confirm that it will be opening very soon. They received permission to occupy the building this past Friday. They are training staff at the moment.

The new Fionn MacCools is opening in April on Kenmount Rd. It also features the new FIONNs logo rebrand. Here is a pic I took yesterday.

THEY WILL DO FANTASTIC !! Great area for them, direct accessibility from 2 hotels, plenty of parking -- this will be a homerun !

Fionn's aka Fionn MacCools is now open at the Fairfield Marriott on Kenmount Road. It's a stand alone restaurant on the hotel parking lot.

Fort Amherst Pub is moving locations: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/fort-amherst-pub-new-location-1.4073102

Good luck to him. The downtown location seemed cursed. Hope he does well in Churchill Square.

Pannizza is now opened on kenmount road next door to Montana's. Looks pretty nice.
They are on Facebook if you want to see a pic. Search for Pannizza St. John's.
