I am a Pentecostal person myself and I have heard of the FGBMFI when I studied Rev Kathryn Kuhlman's ministry. I used to watch her on TV. But I have never heard of Demos Shakarian the founder of the group.

One of the articles mentions Paul Crouch founder of the TBN TV network. I met Paul once when I worked for Rev. Benny Hinn during several of his Long Beach and Anaheim Holy Spirit Conferences in the late 1990s.

Not too bad an example of façadomy, I suppose (or, as it's also called. façadism). I think we've seen several examples here on NLA over the years. A controversial practice that reduces good architecture to kitsch or Disney fakeness, the remnant saved more to appease the few (like us) who care or even notice. I'd guess though that the tenants in the apartments above this one could care less. I don't know about LA, but this kind of thing is happening behind the brownstone and rowhouse façades of many buildings in NYC--unreinforced masonry structures rebuilt with steel etc-- and there are dozens of examples in New Orleans, where rather than renovate 100-150 y.o. houses it's usually cheaper to keep the fronts and rebuild them completely rearward. I'm in favor it when it preserves scale of the street, despite the often "dead-eye" look of the result.

I've got another mystery location for today's Julius Shulman post. It's "Job 5333: Heyman House (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1976". Here's a selection. The clews from this shot are the street number, 1035, and the stop sign at the far left, which indicates it's near the end of a street.



The house is built on a slope, with the ground higher at the rear.

There's also a second set of three images from Julius Shulman's visit a year earlier. It's "Job 5212: Heyman House (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1975". The two exterior shots show the newly finished building surrounded by scrappy grass. The third image (below) shows the living space without furniture.

This was The Track at the nec of Beverly and Kilkea... Von's Beverly Market was across the street and down the block at the swc of Crescent Heights...

Wealthy Dr. Bernard Finch and his mistress, Carole Tregoff were on trial for the murder of Finch's wife, Barbara Finch. Initially Finch and Tregoff hired John Patrick Cody, an ex-convict, to do away with Finch's wife so that Dr. Finch could avoid the risk of loosing his fortune in a divorce with Barbara. Cody failed to complete the deal and disappeared with money in hand. Finch and Tregoff then took it upon themselves to do away with Barbara Finch. On July 18, 1959 in a struggle between Barbara and Bernard at Finch's home in West Covina, Barbara was shot and killed. Finch and Tregoff ended up facing three trials; the first two ended in mistrials and the third they were found guilty and received life sentences.

Kilgallen was one sharp individual. The only time I saw her flummoxed was on "What's My Line." Andy Griffith was the mystery guest (the panel was blindfolded, if you've never seen the show) and was then the toast of NYC for playing the hick in "No Time For Sergeants" on B'way.

Anyhow, Griffith answered all the questions in a perfect Oxbridge accent. The panel went down in straight sets, a rarity for that bunch.

And if you haven't seen Griffith in "A Face in the Crowd," do so immediately :-)

This dairy must have closed long before my time. I've lived in Downey for nearly my entire life, but have never heard of that dairy. I learn something new every time I visit this forum.
