I've never seen a brand die a slower, sadder death than Sals.

It's like once a decade they hold a critical marketing meeting, posing the question "how do we stay relevant?", unanimously answered, "It's Winnipeg, and we're Sal's! We can be 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵!"

Sals was in a good position to move with the market as a Winnipeg institution. What is is now was good 40 years back but there are a number of things it should have aspired to be since. It's embarassing that we've propped them up as a Winnipeg institution.

Subway? I can atleast buy the convenience and familiarity argument, although I wouldn't let my neighbours dog eat there.

We must be reaching the breaking point, if you search for Tim Hortons on Google Maps you'll see that downtown is fairly well covered. At this point the only possible places left would be:

-near the U of W
-around Broadway and Main and The Forks
-East Exchange
-Maybe West Exchange if the area can support another one on top of the RRC kiosk
-Maybe Graham given how busy the Portage Avenue locations are during the day

That has to be pretty well it.

Theres one fronting Graham on the main floor of the Cargill building. Maybe put one at the west end of Graham. Also there is one in City place not far from Graham, usually frequented by TNS workers. 🞵🞵🞵🞵 they're everywhere haha

I was thinking west of TNS, as the one in Portage Place and the one at Portage and Vaughan are usually pretty busy. Hell, there are several Subways in that area and they are typically nowhere near as busy as Tims.

That Cityplace one is nuts, in the morning I often see 40+ people standing in line. Meanwhile, Robins which is maybe 40 metres away and sells a pretty comparable product, will have maybe 3 or 4 people in line.

What I sure would love to see downtown is either Marchee' or Movenpick.
Although True North Square will have a mixed assortment alongside local produce and spirits, the places I mention are large restaurants offering many products mostly for eat in and some for take out. predominantly varied stations for delicious foods an baking.
It would be a great concept perhaps for SkyCity or even Winnipeg Square now that Artis is proceeding with their 40 plus residential tower. The foot traffic these places bring is exactly what we could use and they attract locals and visitors alike in droves.

There's trouble brewing at Timmies. Apparently the franchisees have formed a group and acquired legal counsel to fight cost cutting measures put in place by RBI.

I still don't know why no one has brought Pret-A-Manger here. Probably one of the mroe recognizable brands in the world, and it's very good. Only thing that comes close to it is Marcello's, but it's not the same.

FYI - that was originally going to be a "mountain bean" then something fell thru. They are all fairly small locations so I think the capacity is there

Exactly LOL. I hate Tim's everything except the steeped tea. I had a cookie and some timbits yesterday for the first time in probably a year, and they were awful. The texture/taste seemed to indicate they were days old, but the price did not.
