It's cost a lot of money putting gas in the Googlemobile this week (
), so I thought I'd stay in Long Beach for today's Julius Shulman post. This is
"Job 1719: Beckstrand Medical Clinic (Long Beach, Calif.), 1954". I've picked six of the twelve images.
I contemplated cropping this image to landscape, but decided to keep more of the palm tree.
The upper floor seems to be covered with a thin fabric.
A couple of the photos show large mirrors and large scenic pictures.
This must be the waiting room, located in the corner of the second floor. The thin fabric covering the windows doesn't show from the inside.
I'll finish with the stairs and elevator.

It was only after I started Googling for an address that I found the building was a Richard Neutra design (the info is in the description, but I didn't look!). The old Beckstrand Medical Building can still be found at 1090 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach. I'm not a fan of the makeover it's received - it must be very dark inside. As you can see, the latest GSV images show "For Lease" signs on the building.
