Looks like the small parcel of land on 119 Ave between Wayne Gretzky Drive N/S is going to be 2 CRU's; a fast food/coffee place and what's being labeled as a "convenience store"
Not sure when construction is going to start, haven't been that way in about a month

Looks like Tip Top is closing down in ECC. They only opened a couple of years ago.

I may have not seen the announcement that Edmonton will be getting a Nordstrom Rack @ SEC. If it's anything near what the Racks are like in the US, I'll certainly visit it when I'm in town.

On April 6 of this year, Saks OFF 5TH will open two more Canadian stores — a 33,000 square foot store at Place Ste-Foy in Quebec City, as well as a second Edmonton location, spanning about 30,000 square feet at the Skyview Power Centre in the city’s northwest side. The Place Ste-Foy store is located in retail space once occupied by Holt Renfrew, in the upscale Quebec City shopping mall that is anchored by the flagship location for La Maison Simons.

HMV locations to be filled with Sunrise Records
http://globalnews.ca/news/3274299/hmv-locations-to-be-filled-with-sunrise-records/?sf58831848=1

Quote:
TORONTO – Sunrise Records is placing a major bet on Canadian music sales with plans to move into 70 retail spaces being vacated by HMV Canada.

The Ontario-based music retail chain has negotiated new leases with mall landlords across the country.

Sunrise’s expansion gives the company a quick foothold in the Canadian music scene just as the industry’s largest retailer closes shop. Stores will begin to open this spring after HMV liquidates and removes its signs.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to get a lot more stores open,” Sunrise Records president Doug Putman told The Canadian Press in an interview.

“We think there needs to be a great outlet across Canada to buy music.”
Doesn't say if it's taking any spaces in Edmonton, but I could see them taking over the WEM location.

^ According to the G&M, WEM is indeed one of the takeover locations:

There's also more info on Sunrise's operations

No surprise, its clientele is rather limited and like most women's retailers are being squeezed by the obsession with fast fashion as well as online sales... I think we're gonna see a lot more fail before the industry finds an equilibrium...

Does anyone know if the Icon salon in Commerce Place have actually finished their renos? They've had their windows taped off with "open for renos" signs for a couple of months now. I suspect that they're just using their display windows as storage space.

I'm not all that keen on the location, but great reuse.
