Thanks for posting!

Two things a like about it immediately:

Modernist infill building does not compete or try and copy elements of the heritage building but rather compliments and contrasts it perfectly, much like how modern additions to heritage buildings are treated in Europe. If this had been the 80's or 90's they would have attempted some horrible, likely stucco-faux-heritage-building to mimic the mansion.

Infill building still leaves lots of lawn and space around the mansion, little will change from the present Davie St. view.

Thanks for posting the Gabriola renderings. Looks good.

Reminds me of the Shannon Mews / Estates infill.

The juxtaposition also reminds me a bit of the proposed modern addition to the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa.

Yeah, I'm thinking more of the long view down the street - of the neon and such, rather than down to the people in the street.

Great news as there aren't many 100% hotel projects built these days.

The 401 West Georgia project might be this one posted last year:

If so, they should use the same window pattern with the bevelled corners.

These screenshots of a rendering are from an Oxford projects video (1:38 mark) posted at Urban TO (see below).

You can see the existing windows of the 401 West Georgia tower at the upper right background of the first screenshot.
The concrete elevator core must face the alley towards Holy Rosary Cathedral.

Here's a combination of the two screenshots:

Yeah faux heritage is bad but real heritage is great. I'd like to see that built instead

Word is there's more to this than just the 13 storey hotel.

The 401 West Georgia project might be this one posted last year:
It is, though the design is not the same.

This one will be moving at light speed as they already have a tenant.

Implying the orange sorbet leaky condo soon to be redeveloped right next door?

It'd be nice to have some classic architecture new builds following traditional architecture and with proper proportions instead of faux heritage.

It's actually NICE!
I wonder if they'll replace the signs at the base of the stairs @ Robson & Hamilton with a matching sign.
The existing sign has a coliseum logo on it if I recall correctly.

The City (or hydro?) trimmed the trees along Smithe St. recently.

The trees between Beatty & Cambie were done last year - they all got flat-top haircuts below the power lines.

The trees along the SAP Building were carved around the lines, with tall branches retained against the building. The trees across Smithe had some branches on the roadway side trimmed.

Along Yaletown Park, they all got flat-top haircuts below the power lines.

Along Symphony Place (Dolce Vita) they finally trimmed back the lower branches on the double row of trees so they don't crowd the sidewalk.

yipee! Hopefully spring means they cut all the eye-level branches around downtown (Georgia viaduct to Roger's arena for one, along Smithe where they installed the bikelane just off the Cambie bridge)

So I assume that hotel is part of the Executive Hotels and Resorts group?
