Walked by Yesterday, and there where no employees, and din't seem to have any more progress then last updated. they did however have extra equipment there so there might be an update soon.


Also: The West End school decision has been delayed at least another Month.

I know we have to start somewhere but the Goodlife fitness building looks a little out of place. From this angle it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere.

Other then that it, and the work on the Sobeys/NBLC building is looking good.

Several new projects have been approved for some downtown infill within the back streets Most will be filling up spaces where old run down rooming houses used to sit but I'm not holding my breath since a few of the developers who seem to rather remain nameless are the true faces of indecisiveness, and despite having there plans, and from what I've seen, and heard building permits approved may just decide not to build at all unfortunately. But all the projects seem to look like the renders of the new Dolma Foods building on St George street, and 50 Queen street as well. Now there is a part of me that hopes developers don't buy up land to build the same style building over, and over.

As per their Facebook page Navigators Pub is expanding to take over the vacant store front facing main st beside kcupbop...I saw them working inside there yesterday...this is one of the few vacant storefronts left on central Main st....the core of downtown is filling up fast with this, the infill of former burnt down building, and also work being done in building at corner of Main and King

There were rumours last year that Navigators was ultimately going to fill up the entire space here (including the old Ale House location), so I guess they were true,

I agree, the central part of Main Street now has pretty much the fewest vacancies that I have seen in a long, long time. Lots of restaurants and pubs, but not much retail.

What will the future hold with the opening of the events centre getting closer and closer? Time will tell, but I expect to see aggressive changes in the west end portion of Main Street over the next several years, especially if "parcels A & B" develop, and if the anticipated Aquillini project bears fruit. The Junction Urban Village will of course also have a big impact. I just hope we see a little more retail coming downtown. This will be especially important in stimulating downtown residential growth.......

With Highfield gone, most people just don't think of going downtown for casual shopping. Colpitts is a great destination-type retailer but for a greater variety of stores to be successful downtown, there needs to be more major retail anchors. I'd love to see parcel B across from the Events Centre developed with ground floor retail and residential upper floors. A new construction with modern building amenities might entice a national chain to set up there. Something like MEC and Lulu Lemon would be major wins for that area. Both of these often have urban locations in other cities and would contribute to changing people's perspective of downtown as a shopping destination. Other retailers would quickly follow suit.

I am overjoyed how this infill will restore the streetscape of this section of Main Street. This will be a wonderful addition to the core. In many ways, a building like this can be more meaningful to the urban landscape than a new 15 storey tower.

The headline of the article is a little misleading. This project is designed to replace the existing hospital OR, so the nine surgical suites (although "new") aren't really adding much to hospital capacity. The old operating rooms will be decommissioned when these new rooms come on line.
