I love all the people that don't ride public transportation yet are public transportation experts.

But whatever. That doesn't make me right and I may be proven wrong. I hope that I am. But nah. I don't think so. If anyone rides the streetcar enough they'll soon reach their own opinions.

I did a poll of DTLA residents last year:

How often do you think you would ride a streetcar if it is built along the proposed path?

64 said weekly
20 said a few times a year
17 said never
13 said daily
4 said monthly.

So 2/3rds of DTLA residents think they would ride it at a minimum of weekly. But what do they know?

That's probably true for City west as well with all that growth happening there.

What is the latest proposed route?

So there's only 118 dtla residents?

Thats nice but that doesn't make the streetcar a worthy transit investment.

It's not as if the street car can't be extended.

The real question is will it increase total metro ridership and/or decrease travel times for existing riders?

Yes, those numbers make sense.

This Streetcar will be very successful and it is so important for Downtown.
I never thought I would see a streetcar in Downtown. Finally some big city flair for those areas.

They will finalize the streetcar financial plan Mid-2017 and start the procurement process for streetcar vehicles after that.
The goal is to start construction one year later in Mid-2018, but they are still talking about the financing part.
Jose Huizar is hoping that Metro will be willing to prioritize the streetcar, since it’s one of only a few projects that will be ready to begin construction by 2018.

So we might have everything ready in 2020. Fingers crossed..

It looks good during the day but I imagine the parking structure might be pretty transparent when it is lit up at night. I do like how the podium doesn't come off as too bulky.

People were making all kinds of claims that DTLA residents wouldn't ride the streetcar. Thats bullshit.

The streetcar is meant to connect the convention center to all of the main parts of DTLA. It does that. It is not meant to provide the best or fastest transportation options to replace the subway or the bus. It is meant to be an economic stimulator for the entire DTLA and make it all more accessible. Just because it doesn't fit your specific need or want doesn't mean it won't be successful.

Hopefully the ridership is good, and the streetcar will be extended down Sunset towards Echo Park, or maybe further east towards the Arts District. Absent that, the route is basically 100% a parallel of the regional connector, which will not only be faster, but probably open sooner. (For better or worse, that didn't seem to be the case when the streetcar was being lobbied for.) It's also pretty dang duplicative of the red/purple line, and the silver line.

Looks very clean, and I like how the dark materials contrast with Level to give the area some visual variety.

They did a really good job on the podium of Atelier. It's almost as good as Level's podium.
