This reminds me of McKenzie Towne. It gets praise as a walkable community in the middle of the deep 'burbs, but it's really only quasi-walkable (the street layouts aren't particularly ped-friendly, and everyone I know there tends to drive everywhere anyway).
And more than that, the architecture is a very fakey version of a small town kind of environment. These storefronts on "High Street" all have fake second storeys with fake windows. I don't know if it's a zoning thing (prohibition of mixed-use) or not, but it really undercuts the ostensible urbanism of the whole place. And it looks incredibly cheap, generally.
There are some better parts than others with actual brick and stone. Also there actually are second floors on some of the buildings on high street (what a hilariously tacky name). In general you're right though. It's kitschy.

But "High Street" is just another name for "Main Street", especially in the UK. Yes, we all hate things that are fake. I dislike high rooflines (in theory they actually look quite good) when overused and without any usable space actually in the attic.
Is it the architects going overboard with these designs or them caving to developers? I can understand the struggles with the massing of these homes and the preferred style but, less would be so much more.

With the bungalows I posted with no real windows on the front it's all because of narrow lot sizes. I appreciate the need to curb urban sprawl but the narrow lots have led to some pretty fugly neighbourhoods.

I was actually referring to the stretched out mcmansions posted on the last few pages. They aren't on narrow lots either. Don't blame the lot size
Just want to say that I miss Molson Ex and hope that he returns!!! The threads he created and many of his posts are what attracted me to SSP. His humour was something I could always look forward to on here! I'm sure that many others feel the same way.

I second that! He was part of the reason I joined, only to discover that he'd quit due to some beef with skyline fetishists or canyon jockeys or whatnot.
Perhaps he's simply lost internet access?

Yes I also miss him. I've pleaded for his return multiple times to no avail. I'm not even sure if he visits SSP anymore. I even did a new Clockzilla to try and lure him back but... nothing!
Something to do with a discussion involving Chad / skylines or something and Molson's name came up, even though I don't believe he was actually involved in the back and forth. Long story short they both quit the site, and to the best of my knowledge have stuck to it.
I shall have a drink in Molson's honour. Wherever they are.

I can't blame Molson for leaving. I've left forums for extended periods so I totally understand what makes one do it. I left this one for a period of longer than a year at one point too. Sometimes the local politics are just too much too fight through in the pursuit of meaningful dialog.
