I like The Maple. Point North is a travesty... unmitigated disaster. Easily the ugliest tall building in the city by a huge margin. It somehow manages to not just be bland (like Icon Bay) but also hideous, tacky, dated, cliche and downright embarrassing... all at the same time. Looks like something a first year architecture student "designed" and got a D on (or an F... but in architecture school anything less than an A is essentially a failing grade)

Oh geez, is Point North really that bad? I think you're giving it too much credit for being somehow interesting (in a bad way). It's not interesting enough to be all those things - just boring.

If I may add my two cents in on the thoughts of st joseph square it is a great addition to the community considering the church that was standing here before was closed before and now there is a nine storie buliding with both residential and commercial space and as I person who had lived in the community for a few years and been back off and on for years I was so happy to see this development and knowing it's dexle and paramount gave me piece of mind of the qulity and so far I am already loving where I live!!!

I don't see why this would be a target of vandalization any more than the windows that are literally right next to it.

I like this building but, as with so many in Halifax, how many different friggin' finishes does one building need?? There are at least 9 in this single photo.

For some reason the multiple finishes don't bother me on this one as they do with the Mary Anne. I feel like these blend well, to me the Mary Anne looks like the took what they could find in a clearance warehouse.

This building is too busy, but the massing and form is harmonious and attractive and I think that's the main difference. The Mary Anne's problem goes beyond the clashing finishes, to the gaudy detailing and bulky, weird form of the whole building. And as you point out, the Mary Anne's finishes don't just clash, they look individually cheap and tacky too.

This building does have a lot of materials, but they seem to have been done with intention. I.e. there's thought behind where and how they were used, so they end up working pretty well.

Anyone share some insights on these balconies and the snow?

1. the glass rail covers the concrete balcony, which is nice because it tidies up the facade a bit.
2. the glass rail framing appears to be pretty tight to the concrete deck and finished walls... I feel like this might make it difficult for snow removal?
