This building is too busy, but the massing and form is harmonious and attractive and I think that's the main difference. The Mary Anne's problem goes beyond the clashing finishes, to the gaudy detailing and bulky, weird form of the whole building. And as you point out, the Mary Anne's finishes don't just clash, they look individually cheap and tacky too.
