That's because the NFL is so huge there, even college football leagues are well supported as a corollary. Same reason 2nd division and 3rd division hockey is well supported in Canada.

I'd say that's almost more of a correlation than causation situation for both.

Junior hockey in some areas of the Canada predates much of the NHL (and at least one team still around actually does... slightly). And NHL teams in Canadian cities tend to almost strangle support for 2nd/3rd tier hockey, while college football/basketball in the States is largely unaffected by the NFL/NBA. There's also an even bigger difference in that you could almost argue that the NFL exists because College Football existed/exists.

TFC has also won multiple Amway Canadian Championship Cups and the Toronto Rock have won championships too.

Canadian Championships only had three teams competing for a few years and still only sits at five teams. Winning a Cup where you play four matches isn't quite the same as winning a regular season of ~20-150 games.

You're ridiculous. I don't know where the 3rd biggest sports market is coming from. I don't know why others felt the need to bring up college sports either. There's a required population needed to support a sports franchise. Anything above that is negligible. Big cities have more things to do to support their larger populations.

Need I say it again? Yankees Stadium was empty back when the Jays were tops in the league. They didn't even suck for that long. Performance has a much bigger standing than the size of the market. Last year was the first time the Raptors made it to the final 4 and have made it to the 2nd round twice in 21 seasons. Only you would see that they haven't sold 21 underachieving seasons as a failure.

This is also a hockey town. Toronto could easily support the number of NHL teams of New York; a city with many times the population.

Toronto is the 4th biggest city in north america with number 1 belonging to mexico city.

If we are looking at metros then Toronto slides down to 5th but is pretty much on par with Houston at 4th.

Also some Toronto teams have the support of Ontario and Canada as a whole

Pretty cool locker room with the glowing areas on each locker which I assume will be where the name plates for each player will go.

Though to be honest, it's probably true that the Rock play in the best lacrosse league in the entire world. That's likely what gives their championships more cred than Grey Cup.

On the World Champions note....i'm always amused when American leagues claim world champion status when they're usually either A) Completely uncontested because nobody else plays the sport (American football) or, B) Clearly not the best in the world at the sport itself (baseball). The World Series champions are usually made up of plenty of non-Americans and the US has yet to even finish in the top 3 of the World Baseball Classic. I'd pay a decent amount of money to see MLB teams play against Korean or Japanese teams to fight it out for best club teams in the world.

On that note the 2017 World Baseball Classic is coming up in less than a month! Games being played in Seoul, Tokyo, LA, Miami, San Diego, and Guadalajara. Canada is in a group with the US and they play March 12th in Miami.
