If you're referring to the fact that Elon is on Trump's economic advisory committee, and you're thinking about cancelling because of it, I have the following points:

1. Refugees: Elon has open-sourced edits to Trump's executive order. He has pledged to edit the document with the help of respondents, and submit the document directly to Trump. People are being crazy about deleting/boycotting Uber for similar reasons, except that Uber also broke strike lines of cabs refusing to serve airports until the ban was lifted, which is oh so much worse.
2. General: If Elon chose to decline Trump's invitation, he would not have any access at all. At least if he's in the room, he can try to have a positive impact on the policies generated by the president. He's already brought up several initiatives that would have a positive change (even though Trump isn't there yet, mentally).

Also, I really hope that enough model 3's are sold in Ottawa to open a dealer/service centre here, instead of having to ship the car to Montreal every time it needs service.

cr872190 if you're uncomfortable with Tesla you could always get a Chevy Bolt. Around the same price and range, it's available sooner (general availability is imminent within the next quarter, as opposed to another year or two with the Tesla3) and then you could get it serviced in Ottawa. Several GM dealerships in Ottawa already do servicing for GM EVs.

Oh no nothing to do with Trump (although that whole thing was a little weird). My biggest concerns come from:

(A) Tesla did not come close to meeting their production goals for 2016. I know at some point the Model 3 will go into mass production, and then will eventually come to Canada, but I think any hope that I will get mine in Ottawa before 2019 is marginal.

(B) The whole Model X quality issues that are still coming to light shows me they have not mastered mass-production. I have spoken with a few owners across Ottawa and Montreal who have spoken to build quality issues that you simply don't expect in a $100,000 car. This scares me as to how this will translate into a car half this price. More than that, I think if I was going to buy into a Tesla it would definitely not be a first generation vehicle.

That being said I think Tesla has served it's purpose. It has lit a fire under bigger, more established manufacturers to get going on affordable electric vehicles. I'm now more excited to see what the other big players come up with as a response to this rather than what Tesla is doing. I don't think this car will ever live up to the very lofty and unfair expectations people have for it.

I haven't seen a model X in Ottawa yet. I really wanted to like the Model X but didn;t due to a lot of the design decisions and the pricing (related to these decisions but in fairness also the falling dollar and Ontario cancelling tax credit for luxury vehicles). The doors were really the deal-breaker.

I think the model 3 for better or worse is a whole different animal. They want to find one model that will last a few years so they need to get it right. Are they capable of this only time will tell. You will almost certainly know well before your delivery date and will be able to cancel if it ends up a disaster.

Personally, I call that part of the LRT station project, as it has nothing to do with the Rideau Centre expansion, which is done and open. All the other LRT station work is being tracked in the Confederation Line LRT thread.

I would say we keep the thread open until the LRT station in the old food court area is open. It really IS a part of the mall and when they take down that hoarding for the first time it will be quite exciting.

A trendy Calgary-based restaurant is hoping to carry the success it’s seeing at Lansdowne Park to the corner of Nicholas Street and Rideau Street.

The busy street corner, which has played host to a few different restaurants in recent years, will be the new home of JOEY Restaurants in Ottawa.

The operators are planning to open this spring.

The new restaurant, which isn’t to be confused with the “Joey’s Only” brand of fish and chips shops that largely left Ottawa en masse around 2010, is headquartered in Calgary and has 25 locations across the country. The chain is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The company’s new downtown location will incorporate a revamped patio.

“We were excited about this historic site and being part of downtown Ottawa. It was important that this location embodied the JOEY brand, but was also cohesive with the historic exterior elements of the building,” said Meghan Pitt, designer for JOEY Rideau. “We worked with the city to ensure our patio paid homage to the city’s history while also being unique to us.”

The location is in the newly renovated area on the corner of Nicholas Street and Rideau Street, on the ground level of the building. The upper levels of the new addition is where popular retailer Simons now calls home.

Barry Nabatian, a market researcher with Shore Tanner & Associates, said one of the issues some restaurants in the area have faced is the constant construction that’s been ongoing in the area since 2008 when the old Ottawa Congress Centre was demolished, blocking sidewalks and making it difficult to move around the intersection. The Elephant & Castle occupied a space on the ground floor at the opposite side of the mall, at the corner of Rideau Street and Colonel By Drive. That establishment gave way to The Exchange, which then closed its doors in 2013.

That space is now occupied by Chipotles.

Nabatian said with the upcoming opening of the light rail station and the return to business as usual in the downtown core, it’s likely that JOEY’s will have better luck at the location than its predecessors.
