Great Burlington shot above - it's probably my favourite GTHA downtown outside the big 2. It has unfortunately suffered from some development mistakes both in the past (Village Square) and more recently (condo retail) but does legitimately feel like a "real" downtown. Nice waterfront too.

GO trains go through downtown Hamilton? Since when? I've been trying to catch a train into Hamilton for ages but it has always proved impossible.

Right now train trips are only during peak hours. 5 trains in the morning from Hamilton GO Centre and 2 from West Harbour and returning in the evening. I believe track ownership is what's preventing all-day service but I'm sure someone on here knows more details.

Off-peak, and especially late at night, the express bus from Hamilton to Union is actually quite a bit faster than the train. Of course when there's heavy traffic that goes out the window.

It's amazing how one developer basically built all the condo towers. It really doesn't have that look.

Track ownership but also the corridor would be prohibitively expensive to expand for all day service. Example: The tunnel is too narrow.

That's the Pigott building, built in 1929. It's Hamilton's first skyscraper. Pigott Construction Company built many of Hamilton's and surrounding areas landmarks.

I love that damn Pigott building. Would have fit in nicely in Montreal's skyline.

That's why they're doing the other station now.

In fact, the picture itself has a je ne sais quoi montréalais. It's a great picture of Hamilton.

The current plan for the downtown station is 15-min rush hour service in the peak direction and hourly in the reverse direction, with hourly two-way service at other times. That's probably as good as it can get working with CP and given the limits of the single-track tunnel. It will be interesting to see the impact of having trains come INTO Hamilton in the morning and head outbound in the evening, even with just the hourly service... it will be the first time in ages Hamilton has had rail service that commuters could use to access the city core.

Expanded service to the new GO station on James N. will depend on what can be worked out with CN, but the plan is for 30-min rush hour frequency in the peak direction.

Trains are supposed to run express between Oakville and Union, so that will help with total trip times.

Also once Centennial opens (and maybe an expansion into Niagara? Pretty sure that's in the works) there will be in bound trains for downtown Hamilton from both directions.
