I'm not a fan of O'Leary and it was in poor taste to post it but, c'mon, the world can't afford to stop everytime there is a shooting.`Maybe I've become too desensitized to this nearly everyday occurrence of mass shootings and hanging out at the gun range in a shirt and tie.

Do I want a venture capitalist running Canada? Well, I wouldn't want Daniel Negreanu running Canada either. O'Leary at least wasn't born privileged. He wasn't molded to take over the family's empire whether he had the grey matter for it or not.

You're absolutely right that the world can't stop every time there is a shooting. But O'Leary's case is different. He's aspiring to become the leader of our "us". On that day, at that time, our "us" wasn't at all in the mood for playing up gun culture. If he truly was one of "us", and apt for leading "us", he shouldn't have to have been reminded of that. He should have known it instinctively.

I think for the most part "telling like it is" is not about saying anything but being fearless. You don't have to say a whit and people will still say that you are telling like it is.

Basically, the only way to knock this perception is to make Trump/Ford/O'Leary visibly scared. And that can be very difficult to do to people who have compromised amygdalas.

I disagree. He's not a leader or representative yet. He's just a businessman. There's nothing inappropriate in what he is doing. It's just the timing that is inappropriate.

Trudeau as our prime minister has done far worse things with barely a peep than post an inappropriate photo of himself .... wait a second.

I couldn't care less if he went to a gun range to shoot automatic weapons - that looks pretty fun to me actually. It's 100% the timing that is the issue, and it was very much in poor taste. There are two possible explanations in my mind:

1. He was completely tone deaf to this and it didn't occur to him that posting at that time may come off as insensitive, or;

2. He intentionally posted it at that time to generate controversy and by association, attention.

I don't think either of those are particularly desirable in a potential leader of the country.

Does it remind anyone of anything?

What's freaky is that shit like this doesn't necessarily prevent someone from winning a leadership race. Or even going further than that.

The cynic in me tells me that in spite of everything pointing in the other direction, that this might possibly even be a strategic calculation.

These are the times we live in.
It was absolutely a strategic calculation. He's aping Trump.

Trudeau's photo ops may be bad but this was a blatantly crass thing to do on O-Leary's part. It's either a) a dog whistle to right wing nutjobs or b) an inappropriate slap in the face to victims of a massacre that occurred not even a week ago. Either way it's disgusting and should prove he does not have what it takes to be a leader of our country. What's more think of the message this sends subconsciously to Muslim Canadians: I'm gunning for you.

I still think criticism of O'Leary for this one is valid.

Though you may indeed be right that he gets off scot free for it and no one holds it against him.

I despise the gun culture that had developed in the US since the 1960s and has migrated into Canada. I find it absolutely ridiculous the second amendment hasn't been repealed in the 100 or so years since the West was settled and law and order took over. I find it idiotic of those that say it would be unconstitutional when the 18TH and 21TH are on the same fucking document!

It's a crazy world. I'm not disagreeing O'Leary does deserve some criticism for his insensitive posting of the photo. This however is a far cry from Trump's disgusting campaign which he is now implementing.

One thing this thread does prove. Canadians expect way too much from our imperfect, human celebrities. It's probably a good thing though.

Michael Chong would be the best candidate for the CPC but he's not extreme enough for the fuckwits on the far right.

I don't consider politicians to be celebrities, and of the latter I don't expect anything nor do I really care. Though I do admit the line between the two is on the verge of becoming completely blurred. I wish us all good luck with that.

For clarity sake, I'm am NOT referring to Trudeau's photo ops.

The obvious conclusion would be he was simply conducting business that ended up at a gun range. It's an exhilarating experience that you want to share.

Who knows, maybe after the move-in day, the junk stored on the balcony might actually improve it! LOL!

365 Church is also proof that just because a developer opts for red brick, it isn't a guarantee that the design will look more solid. In this case, it's a really cheap washed out looking "brick". Grey brick would've been preferable here.

O'Leary throws a dead cat on the table.

Huh? More Canadian celebrities have been posted about in this thread than politicians.

Sorry, I still had O'Leary in mind, not Bradvil or whatever...

You're right about this thread for sure.

Of course, O'Leary is as much of a celebrity-politician as they come.

Note that I at least don't post about Chad Kroeger, Ben Mulroney, Snaredrum girl...

EDIT: See, I even got Chad/Brad mixed up up there...

Alright. Back to ugly built environment please.

Welcome to Regina

Thankfully when the overly expensive bypass is built people will be able to just ignore Regina entirely.

Very true. Trump and O'Leary is such an apples to oranges comparison.

If that's the case (and also for Trudeau vs. O'Leary), then let's just rule Kevin out immediately and call it a day!

End of story.
