Like it or not Westjet's main operations are at YYC and YYZ and their business plan will be based on that model. The perception of how they treat other cities sounds like they just do it as if they are bullies. I don't think so.

Had WestJet grown organically and been allowed to grow due to demand, Calgary would probably have half the flights it does. Westjet forced people to use it as a hub and promote growth because they basically said so.

You think people from Saskatoon, Regina etc want to travel through Calgary to get to Vancouver? There is demand for direct flights but Westjet and every other "major" airline bully people into flying through their hubs as the only option.

I understand why people feel slighted by airline hubs, it's like salt in the wound when you think another city is taking the traffic that should belong to your home airport. But unfortunately that is the reality, and if airlines think there is sufficient demand from other centres, they will adjust their hub system/routes. For example, Westjet built up their Vancouver hub fairly steadily, despite being close to YYC and that being their main base. Yes we have to connect in YYC for some flights, but we have non-stop flights to most of their major Canadian destinations, and comparable US destinations to Calgary. Toronto is a different beast altogether, since they are key to so much of the US and international destinations, they really are more of a cannibal hub out east than YYC is in the west, at this point I'd say

Both AC and westjet fly nonstop from yxe to yvr. Air Canada does it year round and Westjet in the summer. As seine who regularly travels on this route the main reason for doing the connection is timing. The AC flight is timed for the mid day bank to Asia.

YWG is also a frequent connection point from saskatchewan and central canada

Sure, but if you don't live in a city served by them, getting there is (was) difficult.

As of April 30, 2017, WestJet is ending its direct flight from Gander to Toronto and replacing it with two daily flights from Gander to Halifax.

This is a reversal of a relatively recent change that saw the Halifax flights cancelled and more direct flights to Toronto added. When that change was made, WestJet said it was because Gander passengers didn't take to the Halifax flights.

The latest change back to Halifax is being credited to the downturn in the oil and gas industry.

Apparently OSS (one stop security) has slowly started at YUL. From select US destinations so far.

I never claimed there wasn't direct flights, but the majority of Saskatoon flights to Vancouver have one stop on them.

Feb 6th schedule has 19 flights through all carriers from Saskatoon to Vancouver. Only two are non-stop. Want to take a guess where the other ones stop at?

If the direct market was large enough perhaps there would be more flights.

Do you think YXE-YVR could fill 8 - 10 flights a day? I don't.

But yes... You will be bullied into having to connect in YYC.
