For Calgary mine would probably be this strip along 6th: https://goo.gl/maps/pc7pMQvaXoG2

View from another angle: https://goo.gl/maps/ktRi6BzJi7P2

Or just the entirety of the west end as built by Pointe of View and La Caille.

Yes those twin commie blocks are part of an area with the highest density of commie blocks (mostly twins) in the city. They still aren't quite comparable to Toronto and Montreal's commie block ghettos in the park though.

Yeah that whole area with the faux chateaux towers is a vertical suburb of bad taste. Lacaille and POS are the worst offenders. Shockingly enough Vogue has turned out better than I expected though.

Just so much bad built between 1997 to 2007. There's some awful apartment buildings from the 1970s in the Beltline too.

Yes I agree. The best periods of construction seem to be the 80's (only for office towers though) and mid 00's to present. I hesitate to say anything prior to 07 was crap as the Bow was unveiled in '06 iirc. The area we've been slowest to improve on has been condos but thankfully that seems to be trending in a better direction, though Lacaille is still around dragging the general level of design downward by default. The biggest difference seems to be more Vancouver and Toronto based developers replacing shitty local ones like Lake Placid Group and Pointe of View / Carlisle Group.

lol, O'Leary posted himself shooting guns on Twitter just before the funeral for the Quebec massacre victims was starting...

He has since removed the message. Bravo Champion!

One of the most awful blocks in the whole Beltline.

Most hostile to pedestrians and least inviting building.

What a fucking loser. Look how tough I am! I'm a balding middle aged venture capitalist but watch how macho I can be! The fact he's using the massacre as publicity for himself is disgusting.

Fucking hell I just swore off following the train wreck south of the Border and now I'm in for this circus sideshow that's going to take place here. Fuck Kevin O'Leary!

I wouldn't say ugly so much as just terribly anti-urban, and as you mention, pedestrian hostile. Like it would be fine in a suburban office park but completely unsuited for its current location.

detox centre but, c'mon, build a podium and put the high wall and outdoor area on the second floor or, on the ground in the rear of the property.

When was that building built? I honestly like it because it has a good amount of density and a francais look, and that it wraps around the curve on Jarvis, although I can't seem to find any info on the building itself.

EDIT: Not Jarvis, I wish I could blame my drinking habit on that error, but I don't drink booze

Most of Europe was in fact not destroyed in WWII. Not every major city shared the fate of Dresden. Huge numbers of pre-war buildings still exist all over the continent. The destruction was devastating to be sure, but Europe is a big place. Large parts of it weren't even in the war. In neutral countries like Switzerland and Sweden, cities today have about the same amount of overhead wires as the cities that were heavily bombed in the war. That is to say, almost none. In short, war destruction has very little to do with it.

And looking to our own country, Montreal was obviously not destroyed in the war. That city has done a great job of hiding its wires.

Shows how disconnected he is from the daily affairs of his home country. The stories about this on Radio-Canada had confused messaging. His comms guy - in English only on a francophone station - said that O'Leary was aware that the funeral was going on in Montreal at around the same time. And that also O'Leary approved the posting of the video. And that he admitted it was a mistake. And then expressed his condolences to the victims.

Does it remind anyone of anything?

What's freaky is that shit like this doesn't necessarily prevent someone from winning a leadership race. Or even going further than that.

The cynic in me tells me that in spite of everything pointing in the other direction, that this might possibly even be a strategic calculation.

These are the times we live in.

After Rob Ford and now Donald Trump nothing will surprise me anymore. I have a few people on my facebook who seem to think O'Leary is just the best for "telling it like it is". Maybe this is a thing we have to go through. It would be nice if this was happened if I were either a lot younger or older though.
