Boom. That's what they are doing. Thanks!

It's funny they included Exhibit but not 640 North or 707 North nor 805 N Lasalle. They also added some additional building in the Cabrini area, misrepresented the building on the NW corner of Superior and Lasalle, and added a ton of extra trees in the neighborhood.

I think it already feels that way, personally, but definitely when that Office Depot gets redeveloped and the lots along Franklin between Ohio and Ontario, and the Ohio House, it will be even moreso. But what I think will make an even bigger difference is if the Tribune property along the river on either side of the Ohio bridge ever get sizable towers. That would really push the experience westward.

My SWAG is they included the Exhibit and not the other buildings because Magellan developed Exhibit.

An intriguing development...

The Gap is closing its big store on State Street, and signs suggest a new tower could replace it.

it's a pretty tight site, it doesn't seem like it would support anything terribly tall, unless i'm missing something. what kind of FAR can they get for the part of the loop?

probably not. the article mentioned that Caterpillar is planning to start moving the HQ here this year.

i don't think 130 N franklin will be quite ready to accept them in that time frame.

Chicago area, not necessarily Chicago.

I know the jobs they are moving tend to be white collar, but I feel like given the industry they are in, I kind see Cat picking a spot along one of the toll roads, and not downtown. I hope I am wrong.

I see them doing an Oak Brook kinda thing.

I don't despise the burbs as much as many of you. Ever since losing McD's they need a bone thrown at them. Give um Cat!

No doubt Cat is moving to the burbs. I see an Oak Brook or possibly the old Kraft space in Glenview. The execs are going to be Hinsdale/Western Springs types. They won't want to pay for parking in the city.

I don't know – I think you're right about personality types, but I also know they've been working closely with Brad Keywell and Uptake, so maybe they'll go somewhere in the city.

I hope everyone here realizes CAT is only moving 100-300 positions (executive staff and some corporate functions like Finance/Treasury/Investor Relations, etc.). This is likely 2-3 floors. I am sure there are many office buildings around the Loop with this availability. The main back-office corporate function stays in Peoria. The existing McDonald's HQ and previous Kraft HQ would require a full company HQ move to fill that much space. Also, CAT currently has their Digital & Analytics department based in the Merchandise Mart.

In regards to the executive team, CAT has a new CEO. Doug Oberhelman retired last year. If ADM executives can handle the City of Chicago, I am sure CAT executives can.

Article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-cat-culture-robert-reed-0201-biz-20170131-column.html

"Such moves are expected to make these old-line companies more attractive to an increasingly urban-based and culturally diverse workforce that's digitally adroit and eager to do business on a worldwide scale."

"Many of Caterpillar's senior leaders have spent many years at the firm and have been rotated throughout the business," Keith Schoonmaker, Morningstar analyst, wrote in a recent report. "Increasingly, however, the company has sought to hire people from outside of the heavy equipment industry."

You should see what they've built in New York.
