Thx

Who wants to bet that it'll end up looking just like Olympic village, arbutus village, Westbrook village, east Fraser lands, and what they want to put in where the viaducts are?

They are all fine and suit the neighbourhood. Wherever you travel in the world, all cities have certain looks. Vancouver is no different.

Right, so you also think that they have the same look/feel. Which makes these massive public consultations kinda funny because they all end up being basically the same as the other developments

I think a lot, if not nearly all, of these public consultations is to legitimize what is already planned. That way, nobody can say "they rammed the project through without asking us."

Chevron has put up for sale several Westside gas stations:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/brit...mid-boom-in-real-estate/article33790366/

Quote:
More gas stations will be disappearing from Vancouver because of the hot real estate market, as Chevron Canada Ltd. plans to put another five stations in the pricey west side up for sale.

The company decided to sell the five locations after marketing three others last year, including one on Georgia Street that is currently one of only two gas stations in the downtown core. Although sales haven’t finalized on the first three, interest in the properties was strong enough to persuade the company to go further.
...

Chevron’s site on Georgia Street, near several new towers that are being proposed, hasn’t been rezoned yet, but the possibility exists in the new West End plan.

The site’s assessed value went to $32.8-million this year from $10.2-million last year, with almost all of the value, except for a minuscule $16,000, being assigned to the land.

The Chevron sites that are being put on the block are those at Broadway and Alma Street, Fourth Avenue and MacDonald Street, 16th Avenue and Cambie Street, 59th Avenue and Cambie Street and 41st Avenue and Oak Street.

The site at 41st and Oak, currently valued at $7.96-million, sits kitty corner from the nine-block former bus-depot site that TransLink just sold for $440-million.

Choklit Park Terraces

Work seems to have started on the Choklit Park Terraces (1107 West 7th Avenue). Workers finished removing the foundation this week, and have started putting in shotcrete.

It was nice to meet you!

Here are some more angles of The Spot on Cambie, with the restored heritage house that was part of the project.

One thing that I think is odd is that this project is allowed to use the same name as The Spot @ 933 Seymour Street, completed in 1998. It reminds me of how we have two different Shaw towers downtown. The Shaw tower at Cathedral Place (across Georgia from the Hotel Vancouver, with the mansard roof that mimics Hotel Vancouver) and the newer and bigger Shaw tower near the convention centre.

Great pics as always mcminsen! The name was derived from the former White Spot which sat at location for decades and was a major draw for City Hall staff, perhaps the developers chose it to appeal to them and to aid in getting it approved.

I think the Spot on Cambie adds "on Cambie" to the name.

WRT Shaw Towers, the Cathedral Place name came about quite recently and is named after Sir Run Run Shaw (who died in 2014), whereas the other one is named after Shaw Cable.

There are also 2 TD Towers - the original at Pacific Centre and Bentall IV (formerly Canada Trust Tower)
