I think you and I agreed at one point that some of those 50's and 60's suburbs are pretty good.

Yes the original suburbs were actually very pretty though unsustainable. Many in Calgary are now inner city. Not all suburbia is the worst. I live in it. I just honestly don't understand how any self respecting person could live in a community called Castle Keep that has a knight and a drawbridge.

Because Calgary was booming and people needed a place to live, now they are settled. Many probably moved in before the knight was there and many of those probably didn't even know it was going to be put in. To counter, how could any self respecting person live in a condo called Arriva, I find that name terrible! A long with a lot of the names these condos get in Calgary.

Side note, one of my best friends lives in Arriva. I also think Arriva is ugly as hell.

Actually in Calgary the medieval fighting groups should stage all of their epic battles there. I am sure hilarity would ensue when the residents and developers get ticked off.

It would have been impossible to move into a community called CASTLE KEEP that had ridiculous advertising everywhere including sales centers and not known it was a medieval themed joke. I'm pretty sure the knight and drawbridge were actually finished near the beginning as they were still selling lots not too long ago and most new communities build the 'central attraction' before the houses.

Arriva is just a name. Interesting that's what bothers you. Most sensitive to these things would be more offended by the tacky crown (the feather element goes a little too far)

It just doesn't make sense the knight, drawbridge, whatever were built after most of the homes were sold as they are key to the theme and marketing.

I saw this thing a few years ago in Toronto. Some fucked up, half assed, glued on attempt at 'Heritage Preservation' or something. The old timey hydo pole is the best example of genuine heritage preservation .

Facadism are a dime a dozen in these parts. There's another one across the street that was just completed. I'm not a huge fan of it but this bank building facade would have been otherwise destroyed for something a lot cheaper. Maybe one day we'll complete in this area with Australian cities.

The old timey pole is actually a modern concrete pole.

Took more time than I thought to find a complete old timey pole. Should have gone east end right from the start. So many have been updated or chopped in half as the lines got buried but, the pole remains for street lighting and transit.
