I wonder if builders cut costs in L.A. a bit, and spend the really big bucks in SF & NYC & Chicago & Toronto on the finishing touches & bold designs? The Oceanwide tower in SF is taller and has a better design (in my opinion) than the L.A. version. 900' vs. about 670' and an interesting tapering & faceted design that must cost more. Just an impression.
L.A. needs a really bold statement (I like the Times Mirror project design). Boxy buildings are boring. L.A. has 4 million people--let's get going! Hopefully Measure "S" Nimbys will be defeated & we can take the skyline to the next level.

Ehh, beggars can't be choosers. DTLA isn't SF, Chi, or Manhattan. It's not even the most desirable office or residential market in the region. What we really need is more pedestrian friendly infill, not statement pieces. We still have a long ways to go.
I mean people hate on the architecture of the Vegas strip all the time, but it's high concentration of amenities makes it a great place to be a pedestrian.
Function is much more important than form.
