I wish it didn't look so similar to 3344 (Sovereign). Though 3344, is probably the most stunning architecture in Atlanta. I just wish it was a totally different design. Let 3344 be its own skyscraper. Just like we don't need any other towers similar to 1180.

The rendering on the right, which I assume would be the apartments, seems awfully similar to the Lennar in Midtown. Will be good infill for the area and I do enjoy the design, despite the similarity. The more developments we can fit in this space near Buckhead MARTA, *ahem* preferably without private roads that limit vehicle throughput *ahem* the better for the CoA.

Lennar for reference:
The big winner here is Equity One, which owns Buckhead Station. Their property is 2.5 times the size as Regents. Once the Park over 400 happens, I suspect we will see the biggest project ever proposed for Buckhead (I have a little insider knowledge, but cannot say anymore).

I assume the park won't be happening any time soon, and add to that any time it takes to build. And assuming the market doesn't change, it could be years before this happens, if at all. I wouldn't be heartbroken to see that shopping center go honestly.

Intriguing. Biggest as in acreage, height, or both? I'd love to see that shopping center go. As much as I'd personally prefer to live and work around Midtown and Downtown (and have these developments occur in those neighborhoods...), I completely support the urbanization occurring in Buckhead.

With the development around Kroger as well, it would be interesting if we say more pedestrians walkways between Buckhead Station, Terminus, and East Andrews Drive. The area would really benefit from more east/west connections other than Peachtree and Lenox circle. Extending Mathieson Pl to Piedmont would be huge, for example.

Isn't that the mysterious skyscraper we've been seeing in the proposed GA400 park cap renderings?

That's true, all that land right in the middle, makes sense, but they've got to wait until the park starts up.

Should be interesting to see what they put into that lot.

At least one casino seems like it's coming to ATL, hopefully not in downtown.

As a downtown resident, I hope they do build it here. It makes perfect sense to build it near Centennial Park, since that is the main tourist trap I mean area in the city. It needs to be somewhere near the GWCC, MBS, Phillips, and within walking distance of the major downtown hotels. This is something that could go in part of the Gulch area, which would keep it in the "Entertainment District" of the city, while also providing transit options to any part of the city, and near immediate access to the interstates. I don't know where else we would even consider putting it.

Despite this, I'd prefer to focus our development Downtown and encourage more foottraffic in-town.

As for the airport, I would support including gambling machines inside the airport, although I don't see a huge benefit to including a casino next to the airport unless we really wanted to push the whole Aerotropolis vision.

The problem with a casino is they are designed intentionally to be a self-containing entertainment district. It would provide maybe "some" influx of options for downtown's entertainment options, but the goal of a casino is to keep you trapped into their building more than promoting other entertainment options next door. The synergy for entertainment downtown is getting to be a bit over-saturated. We need people to live here too.

What downtown needs more than anything is more residential development and community-oriented, smaller scale developments tailored to providing the day to day needs for the city's residents -- not multi-billion development projects. They only put up more walls to the city considering casinos are designed to be fortresses.

Crescent Communities to Develop on old 525 North project

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/...-project-to-rise-in-old-fourth-ward.html

Quote:
Crescent Communities will develop a 240-unit apartment building in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward on the site where earlier plans for a $55 million office building overlooking the historic neighborhood fell through.

Crescent Communities, a Charlotte-based real estate company, is proposing a five-story apartment building over a parking deck and 9,000 square feet of street-level commercial space.
Quote:
Crescent filed an application Jan. 24 with Atlanta for a special administrative permit (SAP). For now, no additional details about the project have been released, so it’s unclear if Crescent has lined up construction financing, if it's named an architect, or when the project could break ground.

My apologies, but I could not disagree more. Casinos are destinations which will drive more people to come downtown and spend money, which will ultimately benefit the whole community. It will also provide 3000 working class jobs which Atlanta desperately needs. With this influx of jobs, people and spending, developers will finally see Downtown Atlanta as a viable residential market.
