is it related to foreign investors? i didn't read the article that I stumbled upon, just a bit of it and it seemed to be about how they are now turning to commercial investments because of the change to residential requirements

Nope not even close to bottomed out, they are only at 60ft of the 105 they will be going down to accommodate 9 levels of parking. So 45 more ft. Also can confirm the strata offices sold out in only a month on the market.

Wow that's deep. How deep was the Shangri-La pit?

Article from the National Post today -
you're right - the Toyota Building is rental office.

The strata office is only in the podium of the condo towers.
They are also calling the tower at the Davie & Hornby corner "Three Burrard Place"

When it comes to the last dirt coming out they have a machine up top with a super long skinny extension arm that reaches down and then the machine at the bottom reaches way up with a shovel full of dirt and dumps it into the top machines shovel. Painstakingly slow but it gets the job done.

As for getting the machines out of the pit I have no idea. I've always wanted to see that getting done but haven't yet. Maybe they are able to partly disassemble the machines enough that a large crane up top can handle the load pulling it up and out.

Surely this has moved beyond the "proposed" status, haven't units been sold already and I saw a big ad on Facebook, I mean do we have to wait until they start pouring the foundation floor?

General rule on the Van section is a building is not listed as U/C until the first portion of the foundation has been laid / crane has been erected.

we need an "approved" tag. it would help knowing what has been proposed and is actually going ahead. because from proposed to U/C can be a long time.

It's the rule across the forum, with the exception of the Canada section just because they want to pad their stats...

There is no building being constructed here, only a hole being dug.

Fairly certain they just pull them out with a mobile crane:

Doesn't seem like a very large crane for the size of the excavator!
Thanks for that site - I'll just be over here for a while...

Thanks for the photo. As I thought, looks like they take the bucket off the end of the arm to lighten the load. And I'll bet they might even empty the fuel tank.

Anyone familiar with the history of the Vancouver's Turn site will know the reason why the rule is the way it is.

The 345C is 99150 lb. Bucket is 3880 lb.

(* Operating weight includes full fuel tank and 75 kg (165 lb) operator. Subtract 380 kg (840 lb) for 50% fuel and no operator.)
