It is very noticeable how silent fans are at Rogers than they were at Rexall. It really does take a lot of the excitement out of the game and it sucks. I don't know what it is but I believe the increased ticket prices have something to do with it. Wealthier and in other words higher class people are less passionate and less likely to scream imo. I remember the 300 level in Rexall was always the loudest when I sat up there.

Oh and I miss the guy with the drum at Rexall, someone needs to get that guy back in the arena.

Oh and what never happens anymore is chanting specific players when they are doing good or taunting the goalie. I guess it usually happens in playoffs which we haven't seen for a while.

That energy is one of the reasons why I got into watching Oilers so quick as an immigrant.

I'm extremely disappointed with how silent the building is. Does it have to do with the design..... Does the large separation between the bowls with the loge and suite level dived the building to much for the atmosphere from one to spill over to the other?

Or are people just cautiously optimistic with how things are going this year and are unable to enjoy it?

Is the ice so shitty that home games are slower than we are used to and prevents entertaining stuff from happening because the puck bounces all over?

I really hope this is temporary....because as the new car smell is wearing off I'm not enjoying these games as much as I should.

my own take is two-fold...

the building was designed and tuned much more for concerts than rexall place so the echos and reverberation generated in the old barn isn't part of the new one. but i don't think that's the biggest reason.

i think the biggest reason the new barn is so quiet is in fact because the new barn is so *&^% loud electronically that you can't hear yourself think, never mind talk to the person beside you or organize some fan noise. there is no way to compete with that so why even try?

if you want the fans to make some noise, you need to give them enough quiet to allow them to fill it without drowning them out every time there is a break or a stoppage in play. if you want to augment the noise levels, do it by amplifying the actual crowd noise to get them more into it, not by drowning it out in 110 decibels of arena rock every chance you get.

I was at the Calgary game on the weekend, and I thought it was still a noisy and enjoyable time. The cheers for Hayley Wickenheiser and Gretzky, the boos during Bettman's tribute, the even louder boos during Trudeau's video segment, the loud cheering during the goals scored - still an electric atmosphere. I do agree that they need to turn down the volume of the music.

I've been to four or five games this year.... all have sounded like a library. Rexall was louder during a 8 game winless streak in December for a team at the bottom of a league than what Rogers is now.

Not talking about how loud it gets or how loud it is electronically. Fans just simply aren't cheering as much. There is barely any 'let's go oilers' chants and when they are they are weak and die within thirty seconds or less. It just gets extremely silent and is very evident on tv as well. It's like watching a matinee hurricanes game with 3K in attendance.

yeah, by loud I was talking about crowd noise, not the sound system.

I'm 32 and there are many times when I think to myself they need to turn down the dial on the sound system while sitting with the other pheasants in up in section 217.

That's good scouting by Hervey and his staff. I expect someone already on our roster to step in this season and produce.

Agree 100% that Hervey has assembled and led a top-notch team of scouts.

Not to mention just generally been a top-notch GM overall.

Nice to know we have someone who is competent at the top now and who doesn't crave the media spotlight. What a waste of space Tillman was here.

Hahaha!

That and his massive ego got in the way here. He basically wanted to media to love him and he'd go out of his way to make sure they did. Didn't focus on the team, focused on his own ego.

That being said, his Ricky Ray trade was for the best. didn't seem like it at the time.

Yes and no. Getting Steven Jyles didn't do much for us but it paved the way for us to trade and sign for Mike Reilly.
Ricky has been regressing for sure but at that time, I still think he would have been serviceable here for another year or two.
