I just skimmed this article and it's quite astounding. It's like he's stuck back in the 60's. Basically no email, text, or any sort of electronic communication. Phone calls or in person only. Takes paper copy of documents to review while in Costa Rica and receives nothing else during that time. And he's our Premier, the guy at the top. Trying to get Manitoba ahead. Oyy..
That is astounding. In SK all cabinet materials and other high level docs have been paperless only (tablets) for years. It is far more secure and convenient.

But the NDP's ROI was quite impressive through the taxes it took

Taxes haven't changed under the PCs, so I'm not sure you have a point.

Yes they have. The BPE has been raised and tax brackes have been indexed to inflation, eliminating bracket creep.

Those are big changes.

I was speaking of taxes that would affect this project. Those wouldn't have.

Keystone XL:

“For Saskatchewan, there will be about 2,200 jobs building the 530 kilometres of Keystone XL in Alberta and Saskatchewan at a cost of approximately $1.2 billion. Keystone XL is projected to result in an additional $3.5 million in additional property tax revenues in Alberta per year and $1.3 million in Saskatchewan. “This is also good news for Evraz in Regina. The company participated in the Keystone project up to the point that it was shut down by the Obama Administration and are optimistic their company will continue to be involved in the project now that it has been approved to go forward,” Wall concluded. - See more at: http://www.pipelinenews.ca/news/local-ne...gotiation-1.8666051#sthash.EKwg0Imv.dpuf

Evraz already built the pipe for the Canadian portion, but there may be some remedial work/recoating as the pipe has been sitting out in stockpiles for years.

Why not just vow to reduce red tape, rather than passing legislation like this? It's like the old balanced budget legislation -- it's not binding on future governments and can be undone anytime. Also, who judges what counts as a "similar administrative burden" when enforcing the legislation? This just seems like an unnecessary exercise.

A lot of people online are speculating that Trump is going to demand American steel for the entire pipeline, not just the American portion. Hopefully that's not the case.

Evraz already produced and has stockpiled 500 miles of pipe for KXL. That is about 25%, roughly equal to the Canadian portion of the line. The pipe is bought and paid for by TCPL. Trump would also have to toss out NAFTA in order to exclude Canadian pipe from U.S. pipelines. He wants to re-negotiate not destroy NAFTA, especially with Canada.

25% of the pipe was produced in India and Italy. Maybe he can pick on them, although that pipe will end up somewhere.

Trump is making lots of noise, that's about it right now. Let's see if he actually gains any momentum.

If Canada have any Balls they will install a tap at the border and demand a tax on any oil going to the USA. Can use it to build a Wall along the USA border.

Problem is that the US is almost self sufficient on oil... We need to export more than they need to import.

Quoting wiki, so take a grain of salt with it but,

USA production, 2016 is quoted at 8.744 million barrels per day.
USA consumption, 2015 is quoted at 19.396 million barrels per day.

USA is no way self sufficient in oil production.

It is way closer than this . These consumption numbers include natural gas liquids. Only about 20% of actual oil consumption is imported.

Not that it will happen, or that I necessarily want it to happen, but MB Hydro could also pull the plug and effective black out MN for an extended period of time if Canada and the US want to re-examine their trade relationship.

20% is a large volume. If you removed that supply to the US, they would be in hard times. Pumps running dry and such. Either way, I don't see it happening. But with all this Trump garbage, who knows where we're headed.
