Wonder what the hell the following will be all about tomorrow... first thing that springs to my mind is the introduction of a "zipper" lane/machine across the AFB during rush hours (sheer speculation and conjecture on my part):

Major construction work could begin soon on the Alex Fraser Bridge to try and address a chronic traffic congestion issue.
“We are exploring the possible implementation of a counterflow system to the Alex Fraser Bridge, similar to what is in place with George Massey and the Lions Gate. That could include actually adding a seventh lane to the Alex Fraser Bridge by removing the curbs and the sidewalks, we think there is room for a seventh lane there, potentially.”
Transportation Minister Todd Stone says the bridge could use a rush hour counter flow lane and he has ordered his staff to take a serious look.
Stone says by removing the bridge sidewalks and road shoulders a seventh lane could be created.
Reporter: Theoretically work could begin in the fall maybe?
Stone: “I would hope that work would begin much sooner than the fall, to be frank. I think that, in particular, when you look at just the bridge itself, would probably provide the most promise in terms of alleviating the congestion that exists on the bridge today.”
Stone says a decision on whether or not to do the work will be made in a few weeks.
He admits it will be a traffic headache but adds it will be worth it for drivers.

Problem is, as has been discussed herein before, the foregoing does not make any technical/logical sense with the existing, 12-foot lane, freeway-standard cross-section. But a zipper lane does, such as the $30 million movable barrier installed on SF's Golden Gate Bridge back in January, 2015:
