Surrey Central panorama as seen from the very top of Metrotown (some 14 kilometers away).

The pop-up 'Park-it' is now in place at Surrey Central Station. Has been getting a lot of attention with people gathering around to sit, play piano, and even some singers. Good for the area. Will be up until mid-September.

Surrey Park-It Program

Isn't the construction supposed to happen on the east side of the sfh on 102A Ave. Activity in the photo is on the west side. Can anyone make sense of this?

As I posted in the SFU thread, the construction is for the new Green Lane that will run behind the SFU building. It is being constructed in advance of SFU excavation to provide an exit for the existing lane that will be partially closed once the SFU excavation begins. The new lane is part of the City Centre plan.

Figure this should be posted here as well:

The plan for the reconfigured bus exchange at Surrey Central. A few observations:
  • SFU owns the land south of the new 102A Ave, with this area envisioned for 2 towers on top of presumably new campus space.
  • The City of Surrey owns the land north of the new 102A Ave, with this area envisioned for a new rec centre (YMCA?) adjacent to Surrey Central Station, and 5 towers over retail/office? podiums all fronting an expanded pedestrian promenade linking Central City to City Hall Plaza.

That looks great!!! 7 towers with retail sfu and office all in a nice street grid! When this area is finished cornering city hall to the mall that will really make it a nice central area

Remember this is still a concept plan not a final plan and likely subject to a lot of changes. I do like the direction they are going though.

there have been so many plans for this area over the years. One thing I've noticed though that I see in all the plans is the carrying through of the retail facing plaza so the one at central and city hall are connected, Its good to see they arent giving up on that

Rich areas of downtown, Coal Harbour and Beach Avenue definitely. Yaletown's always felt like an extension of the Downtown East Side, with needles and homelessness to boot.

The KFC on King George and 105A is closing as of today. The girl on the till wasn't sure, but thought that the owners didn't want to renew the lease of the building.
