Rideau Centre Expansion | Completed - Page 104

I was at the Rideau Centre for lunch on Monday and noticed that Jubilee Jewellers were closed and they had a sign stating that customers can go to the Bayshore location. Did the new Birks and Tiffany's take a bite in their sales or are they moving spots?

Finally. It's a waste of space. There are better jewellers in the mall. They were having a renovation sale for the longest time.

Jubilee's web site now shows only two locations and neither is the RC. I guess that they are not moving spots but have left the RC altogether.

I think that was the last of the stores that has not seen a recent renovation.

Let the speculation begin on who will take over the space. It's quite a large one; will it stay intact or be subdivided into 2-3 stores? This is up on "luxury lane", so I don't see just any store going here.

Wild guess...

Some time ago I noticed Tesla was "opening soon" a location in Ottawa. I've seen their showrooms in other malls (Aventura Miami) so they could easily fit in there...

Here are some pictures of Sportchek taken today.

And the hole where the pedestrian bridge was located is fixed. The windows are rounded instead of square like others. I wonder why.

Tesla has confirmed they are planning a store in Ottawa. Early rumours were that they were going into the World Exchange Plaza.

Tesla has stores in malls in both Toronto (Yorkdale) and Calgary (Chinook) and across the continent they generally choose urban locations. The Rideau Centre is actually quite a strong possibility for them.

Good job HBC! Too bad they won't also restore the George Street façade.

For Tesla, I'd say it's a toss up between the movie theater in the WEP or the one in the Rideau Centre.And I'm pretty sure everyone had the same thought.

The Tesla dealership at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto is long and narrow, but only has enough room for 2 cars. I haven't seen the other locations to compare, but I was thinking they would do something similar (or smaller) in Ottawa. With that said, they have more models available now, and could probably showcase their fleet in a larger space like the ones you suggested.

Weird. Never seen a car dealership like that. In all fairness, I've never seen an urban car dealership in real life anyway, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Tesla doesn't really have 'dealerships' like you would see for other manufacturer's. For one the 'dealerships' are all owned and operated by Tesla. I've seen half a dozen mall show rooms now, and they're all boutique storefronts where you can see the chassis/battery platform, a functioning Model S, and a long information board with statistics, fabric swatches, rims, paint colours, etc. All with a friendly person with an iPad for the rich people who order the car on a whim.

If you would like to purchase a Tesla, you reserve a time with a representative who will take you for a test drive and discuss options with you prior to your 'reservation'. They often rent out a room at the Brookfield Hotel for this purpose and do everyone all at once over a weekend block of time.

I'd say the jubilee location is PERFECT!

Full disclosure: I've reserved a Model III and can't wait!

King Street in Toronto has a few dealerships on the ground floor of mid-rise condos. They look great.

Terra20 at the Rideau Centre has closed. A sign on the door says it was a pop-up shop. I don't recall it being a pop-up shop. I also don't recall seeing any customers in there.

I remember them saying it was a pop-up. I'm surprised it was there so long.

Tesla does in fact have some traditional dealership/service locations like this one in Montreal. Was really excited for the Model3, until some recent developments with Tesla, haven't cancelled yet but seriously considering it. But I really think Tesla should skip the mall style showroom in Ottawa and just open a full service dealership further out of town. We really need a service centre, right now the only place to go is Montreal.
