Funny that's what you took from my post about deliberate plagiarism. It's quite common for papers to do it intentionally, switch a number around, and see who copies the error. BIV and both Pacific Press papers are known to use it to catch cheats. Look up Papertowns to get a better grasp of the issue, or better yet simply source the material properly as taught in any journalism school.

Don't sweat it. if you have a piece of information that is dear to you, don't post it anonymously to an all-access internet forum.

So you post proof that they are lifting your contributions to this forum and then trying to pretend that salting your posts makes you somehow your unethical.

They don't hire journalists, just interns.

I'd like to see the central portion of Robson Street pedestrianized, eventually. The Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica is somewhere I would look to for inspiration. You could design it in a way that it closes to cars in the summer months (say June-September), and reopens in the rainy months, but with priority still given to pedestrians.

The City couldn't half-— it though and would need to come up with something special. I'd like to see lots of bold greenery, and a requirement for well-designed storefronts. There would need to be a better mix than what is there now, with some continual turnover...

Looks like all the necessary leases have finally expired at Metrotown, which should allow for some space consolidation that I have been suggesting for a long time now...

After Home Outfitters closed on the basement level of the Grand Court, the mall has been renting the space out on an apparent short-term lease. I had guessed that they were planning on waiting for some other stores to close on the first floor so that they could create a two-level store similar to what they did with Forever 21 and H&M, eliminating a ton of dead-mall space.

Well as soon as Ben Moss closed, the basement level store did too and now they both have hoarding up. (There was another space next to Ben Moss that has seen temporary stores for a couple years now that also has hoarding.)

So does anyone have any insight/guesses as to who this could be? Uniqlo? Simons? This will basically be one of the most prominent stores in Metrotown.

There are a bunch of stores waiting to be consolidated on the second floor as well (formerly Aritzia/La Vie en Rose), but they aren't boarded up which tells me they might not be consolidated in with this store (ie. two-level store, not three). Maybe the mall is waiting for the Shoppers lease to expire and will create another major space there?

A friend of mine said Uniqlo last fall.

BTW - Third Street promenade is supported by several multi-storey parkades parallel to it.

It's super cheap to park there for hours too. Same with Rodeo Drive. I was shocked.

It's right there in his username...

As much as I don't love Vancity Buzz lifting info from SSP, they are generally of like minds and pushing for the same outcomes as us on this forum, so they are a good ally. That said it wouldn't be tough for them to throw us a bone now and then, it's not like a highly specific forum like this is going to leach away traffic from them.

Apparently that all star wings shut down on robson. closed up

With that space now empty and the old AE location downstairs empty and has been for many months if not years, one could really just demolish that whole building/development and do something better for that location to house a flagship perhaps.

The remaining stores are nothing special, a vitamin place? there was something like an accessories shop that looked like it closed up over new years as well. I think there are 3 businesses left open.

Agreed, demolish it. AE has been vacant for years and is an eyesore contributing to the degradation of that corner, All Star Wings sucked and was doomed from the start, both large spaces are highly unlikely to attract any key tenants and the whole complex looks dated and dilapidated, needs to go ASAP, only thriving business is Breka. Bring-on the redevelopment of most of the 1100 block of Robson before it slips any further.

I've been there and it's pretty great. It helps, too, that it terminates on the southern end at Santa Monica Place (an outdoor multi-storey shopping mall).

Looks like the weather helps too

Such a promenade in Vancouver would need some sheltered arcade style sections. It always amazes me how frightened our area is of such a feature, even though you can find them throughout Asia and many places in Europe. They make it far more friendly to year round activities in climates such as Vancouver.

The closest thing I can think of to arcade in Metro Vancouver is the Broadway Hub, and that is just sad!

Does it need a sheltered arcade? I lived in Northern Europe, the promenades are not sheltered.

Well, if we are not going to shelter our shopping streets, then I feel people cannot complain about shoppers choosing to shop at Pacific Centre and Metrotown and "killing" the surface street life.

Odd, seeing how when I was in Europe I remember walking down quite a few covered arcades. Obviously not every shopping street is built as such, but some key ones are. Of course they become far less prevalent in the south where the climate is much drier and mild.

Also, just because something is not done so much in Europe does not meanthat it is not a good idea to implement in our city. All I know is that during the wet cool days in Van my wallet always found its way to indoor shopping centers

If you close Robson to vehicle traffic and do not cover at least a couple blocks it will be a relative flop for much of the year.

The Strøget in Copenhagen is an amazing retail high-street that was incrementally made car free and I believe it boasts some of the highest retail real estate value and sales per square metre in Europe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Str%C3%B8get

I've been there and it's great! It's also apparently stagnating as the homogenization of high-street retail continues unabated and authentic independent stores are priced out.
