What the hell is going on with that Tyvek wrap? I've never seen anything like that on a major project here in Vancouver! It's a mess! When are they going to begin work on this facade?

I think its cool... its the "phantom building" and ties the theme of black accents in with the other buildings.

I know and have been wondering about it for some time. It is Tyvek (bought from Rona!) over chipboard. Seems an odd choice for such a structure.

I dunno, I think it looks bizarre and tacky too. Cladding the first couple of storeys with that dark brick is a good choice, for the reasons you mention. It diminished the effect of a big hulking slab and helps the building meet the street in a more intimate way.

But this grid rising up the whole side of the building is very odd-looking. A big clean wall of glass would be preferable, IMO.

I was wondering about the chip board as well and was also surprised to see it on a building of this stature.

The Tyvek was probably torn up in some of the storms we've had recently. 80-90 km/h winds will do that.

Wow. I really have to object again to that black brick. Despite its size, it could have look almost graceful from a distance, seen from the hill, with the glass reflecting the blue of the sky or the grey of clouds.

Instead we have this weird lattice climbing up the side of the building to no particular architectural effect. It looks redundant and tacked-on for no reason. It's not good.

I like the brick lattice design, and it will look better once all the white window trim has been installed.

That's funny because I thought that was the first pic I have seen that makes that building look good. It is truly different from the other two. And I like the way it is framed in glass

I don't mind the dark brick, but I really dislike how cube-like the hotel tower appears.

This is my issue with it as well. If they were going to make it so much like a cube, they should have played that off and highlighted it in the architecture IMHO.

They finally started work on the Market St side.

Not sure if I agree that one closure would make it a "dead zone"...

Barrington Street is coming along nicely, and I'm sure something other than a furniture store in that beautiful retail spot would be even better

Everything between the wine bar on the north corner to the pizza shop on the south corner is dead. And has been ever since the NFB Building fire in the early '90s.

Nearly a quarter-century as a black hole on what is supposedly a main street is surely a record.

Where is that Caterpillar D8 when you need it?
