Work in the area and saw the Crocus sign is finally gone, dont know why it was up for so long. I also liked the look of the game board cafe's new spot when looking in.

I think an above ground parkade in that location is an urban disaster! I know an underground facility is very expensive but it's the only way to keep the area moving forward without the dead zone a parkade creates on adjacent streets.

The compromse I would consider is an above ground parkade with hundreds of spots on the lot to the north of concert hall on Alexander. This provides direct access to concert hall which could allow indoor connectivity to playhouse, MTS on Market. Access would also be directed away from Lily creating much less congestion.

You may be surprise when the Centennial Concert Hall Corp unveils its master plans for the area by Sampson Architects.

I'm disappointed another piece of vacant land on Duncan / Galt has been designated as a parking lot with no paving, lighting, fencing or landscaping required. It's owned by Nutty Club and leased to Sports Manitoba. New designation has just quietly slipped onto the property. I could perhaps accept the new use if upgraded but to allow it to remain in its current state in perpetuity is a mistake and has been overlooked by the city...

One set of rules to be enforced consistently... But we all know it's the ongoing exceptions which disheartens almost everyone.

If "temporary" parking is allowed on the new gravel lot north of the Winnipeg convention centre sold by CV I'll choke!

IIRC, a full-on Science Centre was one of the proposed uses of the lot north of the Manitoba Museum across Rupert.

dig the deepest hole we can build underground parking under it then on the surface have a reconfigurable pad of some sort.

we could start with a open air market for summer? that can in winter be used as a rink? and as things evolve we can reconfigure it to a yr round type building or somthing els who knows but it should be able to be reconfigured as we evovle and grow

The Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation has plans in the works for a large 500+ stall parkade on their surface lot on Rupert. This may jeopardize that site for a future science centre but the parkade plan is fairly far along. Apparently they do not require any significant funding to proceed.

At this point I just want a new East Exchange parkade regardless of where it ends up so that the parking issue around there can be solved once and for all.

Although that said, it's weird to think that MCCC would use up its remaining land on parking... would they simply scrap plans for a new science centre or would that go somewhere else? There isn't much room around there for those kinds of things anymore.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the surface lot on the west side of Amy at James is owned by the Centennial Corp, so if they are planning something for Rupert, then you can safely say the James plan is dead. The Cent. Corp definitely owns the old COW signals building at Lily and James, btw. From what I've heard it's not even heated anymore.

The Rupert lot is huge. Plenty of space for a Science Museum and a large parkade.

Thanks for the info. That Rupert lot isn't THAT huge. Especially for 500 stalls. But I'm sure if they wanted to, they're could incorporate both projects onto the land. Put the parkade (partially?) underground. how big is this science centre I guess is the Q.

Related but separate topic. Part of Martha was closed for the new Sport for Life building. There's an access point for Martha to Disraeli that's basic useless now. It was useless from original construction, even more useless now. Just go to Lily. And the right turn off Disraeli is stupid cause you just came down main St and passed Rupert, 🞵🞵🞵🞵 just turn there.

From that angle EVERY city of that scale will look bad.

Not many buildings put colored gravel on their roofs or color the roads and sidewalks.

You will have to show me where I stated that Winnipeg is the only city that looks like this in the spring/winter. My point was that whatever replaces the PSB should include color. Notice the wonderful color of the Traveller's Building? More please. One of the student's proposals included buildings on angles; I would love to see that, as it is so boring following the streets. I prefer the bottom right plan, as it is dense, with angled structures. Having massive empty "plazas": no thank you.

I looked at a Google map, and you're right, the turnoff from Disraeli is utterly useless now. Considering how close both Lily and Main are, I don't get why that entrance/exit were even built in the first place.
