That's pretty cool! a much more interesting version of the LED display on top of the City Centre tower here, this one looks like less of an afterthought though. Hopefully those LEDs don't burn out...

City says it must strike a balance with illegal parking and is working on a new strategy to tackle issue

The City is really making it difficult to justify anyone actually try to do parking legally and for developers/land owners to actually have to worry about their vacant lots. Just turn it into parking, the City won't care. You can even buy them off for a pittance to the community league if you want to make your illegal gravel lot seem legitimate.

The properties containing illegal surface parking lots need to be a liability for the owner instead of an asset.

In Metro Vancouver, Translink, the agency that runs most transit and bridges in the region, has the power to tax parking stalls. Is that an option in Edmonton? (not saying that it's popular with drivers, but that may help level the playing field towards development)

Yesterday, I heard people talking about world expo. Why not edmonton host a World expo rather than commonwealth games. It can use the quarters/old airport or the land at kinsman+rossdale. It will have a lot of architectural pieces that can be converted to housing, museums, sports centre, and or educational facilities. That is much better than hosting a game. IMHO. Edmonton should think global

^ It has to have support from all 3 levels of government plus corporate support.
And Edmonton did bid on Expo 2017 until PM Harper pulled support - see this thread:
