Have to say the design of the new RAM has grown on me - I like that it is relatively conservative - lends an aura of class IMO.
Didn't realize it will be the largest museum in western Canada.

When you say "relatively conservative" I use the term "Edmonton style".

That museum is typically what Edmonton would and has built.

Could of done a lot better but at the same time it could have been cancelled.

except "edmonton style" would have to include the "old" museum, peter hemingway's pool, the legislature annex, the citadel, the new arena, epcor tower (yes, i'm biased on that one), kelly ramsey, city hall, the new walterdale bridge, the macleod block (twice), the alberta hotel (twice), muttart conservatory, jasper place library, mill woods park pavilion, the aga, winspear, gilead, kaye centre, the airport's new terminal expansion and offices...

Maybe the arena and a few others. The museum is nice but certainly not iconic.

It is typical of what we settle for here in Edmonton.

City Hall is one of my favourite buildings anywhere. Coronation Pool is definitely iconic, as is the JP Library, as will be the new Stanley Milner.

I'd add Manulife and CN Tower to the list along with the new Hyatt on 96th, so while I agree the "old Edmonton" was pretty conservative (okay, let's just say it, "cheap"), think we're turning a corner.

As for the old museum, yeah, that monolithic back wall facing 102 ave chops it quite a few notches - yet the south face fits beautifully with Govt. House.

Regarding pedestrian safety, I think several downtown intersections can improve with scramble crossings:

Jasper & 109th
Jasper & 101st

104 ave and 109 St
104 and 104
104 ave and 101 St

My opinion both as a ped and driver going through those locations

And majority, if not all, of 102 and 103 ave intersections between 101 and 109 street should be turned into 4-way stop signs or some yield signs. way too many unnecessary lights.

That is the opposite of creating pedestrian safety for the area. Especially as that are grows and intensifies, the last thing one would want is a relaxation on signalling. Outside of business hours some of those signals can seem unnecessary, but as someone who used those roads to commute by bike, the signals are a good thing.

I don't see them as unsafe. Four way stop signs are pretty safe in my opinion. You don't see people zooming through those. Two way stop signs are the dangerous ones because you give one road the right of way and allows for idiots to drive careless.

Indeed. My Vancouver colleagues are always baffled at how long the traffic light cycles are in Calgary and Edmonton.
