I should have mentioned that the font is perfect on a computer. I meant that it is a little big when viewing on a cell phone (iphone). It's not a big deal and overall the new website is awesome and a great improvement!

Thanks everyone for all the good comments about the new blog design! Ryan and I have been working on this since July and have spent dozens of hours weighing our options for a hundred different details about what the new blog would look like. It's been a great experience--Ryan and I think alike on just about everything which made the process quite easy and fun.

Well this is just stupid:

Proposed constitutional amendment would limit Denver-area housing growth

Especially this little quote:

Quote:
He (Hayes) argued that excessive growth makes Colorado unattractive to people wanting to grow jobs here...
What does that even mean?

I read this article yesterday. It would be absolutely ridiculous if this passed. The good news is that since Colorado recently passed Amendment 71 (which makes it much harder to pass amendments going forward, this virtually has no chance of passing)

Can't they just build something in the 1,000' range???

http://www.businessden.com/2016/12/06/amazon-browsing-for-downtown-office/

Also, the parking lot has been closed for the Lennar project on Welton so that should be beginning soon. 3 major lots in A Square now gone, even if the projects are less than inspiring.

While I wouldn't expect Amazon to take up enough space for justification of a completely new office high rise, it's good news for downtown Denver. May help in getting Block 162 built too. I am not sure how the downtown office vacancy rates stand right now, but this combined with the prospect of potential rises in oil prices may be enough pressure.

That would be nice. Haha.

I bet they end up in 1144 15th Street. Otherwise somewhere in Union Station, assuming there's room!

Plus a half-dozen projects in the planning process.

Hey Amazon; for other customers who purchase office space in downtown Denver, they also like to purchase build to suit options in previously empty lots.

Wow! This IS ridiculous! So what, he wants to pull a "Boulder" and make the entire FR unaffordable??

Surprisingly low density townhome-and-duplex project coming to 10th and Acoma in the Golden Triangle. BusinessDen.

Is that surprising? There have been a couple of other townhome projects within two blocks of those. I think those townhomes fit the area very nicely.

Still a lot of parking lots to fill! I can imagine downtown/Arapahoe Square/Five Points/Riverfront/Union Station in 2 to 3 years as everything under construction is completed and fills with people. Thousands of new residents added in just a few short years. Is this the greatest building boom in Denver history? Surely rivals the 1980s which was more narrowly focused on downtown commercial as compared to the much broader based building boom we are having now that covers downtown and most of the surrounding neighborhoods and beyond (Brighton Blvd, Cherry Creek, Sloans Lake, LoHI)..

That's exactly what he wants to do. Boulder puts a cap on annual growth at 1%. My understanding is that if the previous year was .75% then the current year could be 1.25%. Regardless it's a 1% growth rate.

This guy wants to pretty much do the same thing and cap growth at 1% for the entire Front Range. What a joker!!!

He's also also going to bring suit challenging the constitutionality of Amendment 71 as trying to get on the ballot with this growth measure is going to be damn near impossible. Especially since the granola munchers now have to get out of Boulder and Denver to get their measures on the ballot.

I kind of think so; especially in the Denver of 2016. I was mostly turned off about the "Cherry Creek style duplexes". To me that's straight up suburban. At the same time, it's better than parking lots or unsalvageable, abandoned structures.

I've been priced out of Denver and into Aurora as it is, any Boulder-esque attempts to limit growth and I'll have to move.
