Why does every ribbon cutting ceremony now require the obligatory Native in their traditional garb?

Anyway, great day for transit in Vancouver. Someone from Vancouver should show Toronto how to build a transit line on-time and on-schedule. Actually someone from Toronto should go to Vancouver to see how SRT could operate if the TTC didn't run it into the ground.

How long are the trains in meters?

Half because it is the PC thing to do these days, but also half legitimately because much of the art at the stations was done by native artists, or, as I call them, Canadian artists

Vancouver is built in unceded First Nations territory. They belong at these events as much as the mayor. You live there. How can you not know this?

Why bring up Toronto and your unrelenting pursuit for it to copy upon Vancouver's success? Can't you just celebrate the opening of this extension.

Evergreen wasn't that late but, it still didn't come in on schedule.

5 months late I believe due to sinkholes during tunneling.

I have heard that in the end it was completed under budget by about 75 to 80 million dollars.

That is not bad when it comes to such major transportation projects.

Not at all.

There are always unforeseen circumstances (like sinkholes) that can delay a project and its up to the ownership to decide whether to pay a lot more to meet the deadline or just accept that the date won't be met. A project that doesn't meet its target budget or target date is not necessarily a failure in project management. For a project to come in under budget may just mean someone overestimated the costs of it too.

It's the same thing with private public partnership. Yes, They get things done on time and budget but, let's not forget these capital provider are in it to make lots of money. You have to wonder if the short term gain is really worth it over the long haul for these publicly owned organizations.

Anywyas, Give it a rest ssiguy!

Are there contingencies built into the cost here? I know in the UK after massive cost overruns with big projects like the Channel Tunnel etc, there are now substantial (~60%) contingencies as they know there will be lots of unforeseen issues. This has resulted in most projects now being built on budget, when you remove cost rises due to scope creep.

The project management and contingencies is 20% for the Evergreen I believe.

Evergreen trains are the same trains as existing Skytrain.

There certainly are and I'm sure it's a substantial amount for these private public partnership. They always have to contend with penalties for delivering late. In the case of the Evergreen Line, it must of made more sense to pay the penalties than to pay the overtime to make up for lost time.

Ugh. He was wondering why they always are in traditional dress, not questioning them being there

Expo, Millennium (including the new Evergreen extension) also run Bombardier cars. So they can product trains. The Mark 3 trains look quite nice.

The delay is minor (and in my books close enough to declare it on time). Good they came in under budget. There is always contingency on these types of projects and when you tender out the sub-projects there can be a big difference in the cost of trades based on market conditions.

Nice project, great addition to Vancouver. Surprised Ontario does not use more of the Skytrain technology. Bombardier keeps picking up the odd project based on the technology in Asia and it has a foothold in New York with the JFK Airtrain. The trains are manufactured in Ontario, since Bombardier shutdown the Vancouver plant.

Fewer and fewer people wear suits and ties as there regular day to day dress especially on the west coast. However for special occasions it is customary to put on traditional business attire (a suit and tie) for many with a western background as a show of respect.

For leaders in the first nation community they probably wear business casual in casual setting and put on traditional attire as a show of respect for a special event.
