Intermountain Healthcare is set to begin building a Transformation Center with a $20 million gift from Utah businessman and philanthropist Kem C. Gardner.

Intermountain executives said the new center will be home for institutes that train healthcare leaders working on transforming the way care is provided across the country and around the world, with the goal of achieving the highest clinical quality at the lowest sustainable cost.

The Intermountain Transformation Center will be designed to serve as a base for Intermountain’s efforts to transform healthcare in ways that are patient-focused and consistently strive for the best clinical outcomes at sustainable costs, Intermountain executives said in a statement.

...

Construction of the 120,000-square-foot Transformation Center will begin in 2017 on the Intermountain Medical Center campus in Murray, with the four-story construction scheduled for completion in 2018.

That's the extent of the progress of the project, you covered all the updates.

All of the lawn that they are putting in is a restaurant that will never be. Let's not pretend that this is going to activate the sidewalk or that it is in any way urban.
Wait! What? The current WVC Hale theatre has an annual audience of 270,000 and they have stated they have to turn away thousands. The new theatre is expected to nearly double attendance, which I'm guessing they're targeting 500,000 per year.

I think we need more greenery in urban areas, not less. I lived for several years in Manhattan and I really missed trees and other greenery. Although, I would put in a more diverse garden and not just lawn.

Interesting, and another good sign of what some of us predicted when the IHC Center completed phase I a few years back. That much of that vast parking space would eventually become filled in with mid-rises and additional enclosed parking structures. Hopefully, the campus is mixing in some walkable friendly features and services.

Treasure Mtn.'s Latest Iteration

Jay Hamburger, The Park Record @ http://www.parkrecord.com/news/park-city...-continue-to-encounter-broad-opposition/

The Park City Planning Commission on Wednesday continued to struggle with the Treasure development proposal, addressing topics like the excavation, the square footage and the design. The project, shown in a rendering from the development partnership, is envisioned for a hillside overlooking Old Town.

From what I've gathered the prestige is still happening but their first building will be around 6 stories (which I think all subsequent phases will be similar in height).

I was hopeful too that they start developing the huge sea of parking but according to the KSL article, it will be on State Street replacing a little 1 story building that had a lab and East Coast Subs so not taking any parking lot.

I would like to see them save and find a use for just the original part of Granite high. At least the western section of the original building. I'm not sure what is hiding under some of the additions that have been done.

Salt Lake County home prices reach record level as supply lags

http://www.sltrib.com/news/4528526-155/salt-lake-county-home-prices-reach

Quote:
Home prices in Salt Lake County have now topped the record levels reached just before the Great Recession, and experts say a lack of affordable supply is continuing to squeeze sales.

The median price for single-family home in Utah's most populous county reached $301,000 in this year's third quarter, up 7 percent over the same time in 2015. That put it slightly above where it was for the same quarter in pre-downturn 2007 as residential real estate markets were soaring and the median home price hit $298,085 in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Rising prices and sagging inventories hampered single-family home sales in July, August and September, according to the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. It reported Monday that an estimated 3,694 homes sold countywide for the quarter, 187 fewer than changed hands in the same months of 2015 for a year-over-year decline of 4.8 percent.

Planners looking for Point of the Mountain vision

By Dennis Romboy - Deseret News

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865667722/Planners-looking-for-Point-of-the-Mountain-vision.html

FILE — Traffic moves past construction workers and equipment for the Point Project on I-15 near Point of the Mountain on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

SALT LAKE CITY — Envision Utah has started the massive job of planning how to develop land at and around the rapidly growing Point of the Mountain area connecting Salt Lake and Utah counties.

The state recently chose the local planning organization to head up redevelopment of about 700 acres that will be vacated with the relocation of the state prison in four years. But the project goes well beyond that, with about 20,000 acres along the so-called Silicon Slopes that officials say will develop over the next 10 or 20 years...

...More than 57,000 jobs have been created along the I-15 corridor between Midvale and Pleasant Grove since 2010. Lehi trails only Salt Lake City in new office construction in the state.

Planners expect another 250,000 jobs and hundreds of thousands of new homes as the area develops and the populations of Salt Lake and Utah counties grow to a combined 2.7 million people, Envision Utah President Robert Grow told the Transportation Interim Committee...read more

The area around the trax station on 4500s is still growing. There is another residential building going up. It is to about 5 stories tall. I couldn't really see as I was driving by but the parking structure base looks almost completed. The north most residential structure buy the old tower is pretty much all framed out

[QUOTE=delts145;7629955][CENTER]Planners looking for Point of the Mountain vision

By Dennis Romboy - Deseret News

This is a total mess.... Create urban massing where it should not exist. Just Brilliant... What this plan actually creates is significant pollution, congestion, suburban sprawl, and an overall failure. All the while SLC maintains its vacuous parking lots and four story stucco apartments. I honestly believe that many of the so called 'visionaries' and 'planners' in this state are mentally retarded.

We all need to make our opinions heard on the Prison Site. This is Envision Utah's page regarding Point of the Mountain, there is a comment form that you can complete. I told them that Envision Utah should be ashamed that they are involved in such a horrible project that will create more sprawl and pollution. My "Big Idea" was to build a new prison on the existing property.

my input

Challenges and opportunities

Located in the heart of a metro area with a population that will reach over 3 million people in short order, the point of the mountain can become more than just a commuter suburb. Many Utahns wish to spend much more of their time on the sidewalk and less of it on the highway. A recent study found that perhaps more than 400k people along the Wasatch would like to live downtown. Development has failed to capitalize on this. The great challenge is to change attitudes in the development community so that they can create the walkable urban spaces that their customers desire. Unfortunately the development that has taken place thus far near the POM has failed to do that.

Big ideas

Mountain lands are not islands. Valleys are a part of that ecological system they are not apart from it. Wildlife passageways even if in the form of well placed golf courses, cemeteries, parks, trails, etc should be a part of any plan.
The point of the mountain presents us with one last opportunity to link the Wasatch range to the Oquirrh mountains. Further there are existing amalgamations of open space that reach into the valley, such as the area surrounding Fox Hollow golf course. These existing open spaces should serve as guideposts as to where we plan future open spaces so that they may become part of a larger system. We should begin to lay the foundations of an integrated system of open spaces. As our descendants expand and enhance those systems they will look back and thank us for our foresight.

Park City - Redevelopment starts at onetime art center site along Main Street

The Park Record - By Jay Hamburger - http://www.parkrecord.com/news/park-city...etime-art-center-site-along-main-street/

Metal poles have been placed along the perimeter of part of the former Kimball Art Center property,
signaling that work on the redevelopment of the building is quickly approaching. The poles will be part of a construction fence.

Crews early in the week started to prepare the former site of the Kimball Art Center for a major redevelopment, an important moment in a long-running, hotly contested process that ultimately led the not-for-profit to sell the property and then the new owner to make significant concessions to win an approval for the project...

...The site is under the ownership umbrella of a California firm called Columbus Pacific Properties. The owner won a City Hall approval to put up a new building where a patio is now located. The new building will be connected to the historic one with a glass breezeway. The project involves an undetermined number of retail spaces and space designed for events...

Perhaps we've entered a new age of decentralized urbanization

To be fair, I'd rather see someone commute Lehi -> Draper than I would see them commute Lehi -> SLC downtown

That new Gartner building in Sandy will actually be the new headquarters for Mountain America Credit Union (currently located in West Jordan).

Boy Mountain America likes to bounce HQ a lot. They just moved from salt lake to West Jordan back in 2007 I think. They are growing probably or want a more visible HQ.

I would rather have them commute from Lehi to downtown via FrontRunner than Lehi to Draper by car. Infrastructure that already exists.
