Agreed. It's very nice looking in person. Will be a nice bookend to the block once the surface parking lots to the West of this fill in too.

I agree, and I'm a staid Philadelphian. And trees never hurt.

the broad and callowhill buildings are actually looking pretty good. They aren't tall but they don't look cheap.

Christie Keeping Decades-Old Tax Agreement With Pennsylvania

Quote:
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has decided to maintain a tax reciprocity agreement with Pennsylvania that allows residents who work in either state to pay income taxes at their home state’s rate.

The Republican governor had announced in September that he was pulling the state out of the nearly 4-decade-old agreement. That would have raised taxes for thousands of New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents who commute across the Delaware River for work.

But Christie said Tuesday that legislation recently passed by state lawmakers will help rein in health care costs for public employees.

He says that eliminates the need to pull out of the deal, a move that had been sharply criticized by residents and business owners in both states.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but this certainly has implications for development in and around Philadelphia, no?

Gov. Wolf pledges $300 million to revitalize the Philadelphia port, add cranes and warehouses for cargoes and autos

Quote:
Gov. Wolf announced Tuesday a $300 million capital investment to existing terminals and operations at the Philadelphia port aimed at doubling container cargo capacity and creating about 2,000 more direct port jobs.

The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, a state agency, approved the plan to add $200 million in improvements at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in South Philadelphia, including four new electric "post-Panamax' container cranes. Another $12 million will be invested at Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond, and $90 million to expand automobile processing currently at Oregon Avenue and Columbus Boulevard. About 150,000 new Hyundai and Kia autos arrive annually at Packer Avenue, headed for dealer showrooms.

Big news! 2,000 more jobs South Philly seems amazing. I found it encouraging to read that Gerard Sweeney, the CEO of Brandywine was very involved in the decision as chairman of the PRPA board; it seems he is very much committed to the Philadelphia market and after listening to a lecture from him, I trust his judgement. Notably, however, the State decided not to expand the port with the new Southport development, but decided instead to increase capacity "by 86%" at the current facilities. Seems like a win to me. Things are looking up for Philly!

University City Historical Society lost the appeal, apparently, circa 1865 house at 4046-4048 Chestnut Street now coming down for new 6-story OSB student housing cube.

Two other twins in this row are now protected (including my old house); the one on the corner of 41st and Chestnut is still unprotected for some reason.

Does anyone know if they're close to announcing tenants for these spaces? I know Bed Bath and Beyond walked away from Lit Brothers. Why not go above Target?

I didnt realize so much empty retail existed in that building. There is still a lot of vacancy east of broad in spite of all the articles covering the resurgence. Makes me wonder how PREIT managed to get informal agreements on 50% of the gallery already. Ive been underwhelmed by the East Market tenants so far, hopefully the best is yet to come.

A damn shame! I'm glad at least the two are protected.
