Religion flourishes, people there believing in having shitloads of kids, and lots of Germans move there to have hobby farms. It's not that anomalous in Southern Manitoba at all.

Bolded; that's not synonymous to Southern Manitoba, seems to be the same thing happening in Northern Manitoba but that part of the province is a basket case in every way!

So having a shitload of kids is not necessarily bad for the economy? Well I suppose if they all grow up to be doctors, lawyers businessmen/women plumbers or electricians (or many other professional types).

This new, small-scale potash mine SE of Lake Diefenbaker looks like the real deal. The new partner is one of India's biggest companies. GenSource has also partnered with the Chinese firm Yancoal on another project closer to Regina.

I'm surprised they pushed through with all the mines closing.

To India and China, these are strategic footholds into Potash. they are concerned about security of supply and a return to cartel pricing. Here is the Indian Co PR:

What a relief that Trudeau approved the Enbridge Line 3 replacement. It was a no-brainer, but you never know these days. This is a $7.5B project that will be built mostly in Saskatchewan. Manitoba gets a nice piece as well. I am not sure how soon work can start, but we need this badly. Also most of the pipe will be made by Evraz in Regina, where there have been many layoffs recently.

Unfortunately Evraz Regina also had the order for Northern Gateway that was rejected for political reasons.

I wouldn't day it was political reasons... moreso legal reasons. It would have been nearly impossible to get the approval of all the First Nations whose land Northern Gateway was going to go through. Kinder Morgan already exists, so increasing capacity is a bit of an easier job.

This has more to do with cheap hydro and proximity to pulse producers than anything Pallister did.

How did Pallister get in touch with anyone. Lack of phone, email. Does he know what a computer is? Or a razor blade for that matter lol.

Shall be interesting days ahead with Donald in the White House.

I think he's going for that Miami Vice stubbly look

Or if you want to look at it more charitably, he's working so hard for Manitobans he doesn't have time to shave!

Ha. The Miami Vice look is actually not bad. Pallister's look is the 'just rolled out of bed' look. With messy hair to boot.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/pallister-email-costa-rica-1.3925006

I just skimmed this article and it's quite astounding. It's like he's stuck back in the 60's. Basically no email, text, or any sort of electronic communication. Phone calls or in person only. Takes paper copy of documents to review while in Costa Rica and receives nothing else during that time. And he's our Premier, the guy at the top. Trying to get Manitoba ahead. Oyy..
