How cities voted

Here's NYC by neighborhood.

As usual, it's Democrat dominated with the GOP winning over Italians, Orthodox Jews and Russians.

(Though Trump overperformed with Staten Island Italians compared to Romney and underperformed in Hasidic Brooklyn)

Hasidic/Orthodox Brooklyn (which is massive and fast-growing) votes in a bloc. This year they voted straight Republican per their leadership's directives.

It's crazy, but NYC will probably be a lot more red in the coming years, almost entirely because of the Orthodox . The city overall will always be blue in a landslide, but there will be large, growing red splotches in Brooklyn and Queens. SI will somewhat make up for this growth, though because SI will be solid blue in a generation or so (nonwhite population soaring).

Wow, I knew Staten Island was more conservative than the rest of the city, but I never would have imagined such a large swath of a big, prosperous Northeastern city going majority Republican.

Yeah, because only poor rednecks vote Republican.

Kidding, but really, I am surprised too.

Most of that area is empty, though. It's kind of like looking at a U.S. map and then concluding everyone is red because the overwhelmingly majority of geography is red.

Most of western/southern SI is either industrial, protected woodland, or sprawly patches of development. The developed parts are solidly Italian and Russian/Ukrainian, core Trump constituencies.

The only part of SI that is densely developed is the northern third or so, which is blue and has majority of the island's population.

What was the most populous county that Trump won? Pinellas County, FL? Population 929,000?

I was basing that on the numbers though, which has Trump winning Staten Island with 57% to Clinton's 40%.

Hillary managed to lose St. Pete in Pinellas county which was a Dem stronghold for Obama along with 3 other counties that Obama previously won including the Florida Keys.
She only lost the state by 1% or 120,000 votes which was equal to PA's percentage loss as well.

Most of Florida's major cities voted for Hillary except for Jax.

time to roll back tax free status for religions, unless they give out more than they take in, and they pay everyone at the poverty line.

Considering Putin was actively trying to get Trump elected, of course he won the Russian vote in NYC.

Are you saying that Russians in NYC are a fifth column? I would think many Russians in the US are there specifically because they don't like the Russian government, is that not the case?

That's what I was thinking.

I imagine that many of these Russians have been in the US for quite some time if they could legally cast a vote in our elections. With that said, they probably immigrated here shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union or shortly thereafter. They probably cast a vote for Trump because they remember what it was like living in a communist nation and see some parallels to the American leftist socialist leanings (free this and that, redistribution of wealth, level the playing field etc.). Many immigrants become small business owners and fear that the hard work they put into their business could be taken away at a moments notice and redistributed to the non-working poor.

They probably also remember the Cold War when America and the Soviet Union were arch enemies on the brink of war. The collapse in relations between our countries during the Obama years probably sent their vote towards Trump who was very critical of Obama/Clinton's deteriorating relationship with Russia.

Here is Austin. The map includes Travis County and Williamson County, since a part of Austin is in Williamson. The blue areas are generally speaking the city of Austin. Travis County was 66.25% Clinton and 27.4% Trump. Johnson and Stein combined at about 6%. All the suburban counties went for Trump. Fast growing Hays County seems to be trending blue, but it's not there yet.

Philadelphia:

Dark red are wards that Trump won and light red are wards where he got more than 1/3 of the vote. Clinton won every other ward in the city. The 26th Ward in South/Southwest Philly is relatively sparsely populated but that area of the city is Toll Bros country so take from that what you will. Northeast Philadelphia is to this city what Staten Island is to New York so absolutely no surprises there.
