A strange tradition no doubt, but surprised that's new in Montreal, been a pretty longstanding event in many cities across the globe.

I guess we can safely assume, therefore, that it started in an anglophone country.

It's been here for several years, at least, too. And, of course, merged with local 🞵🞵🞵🞵 like fairies, etc.

Yes that was what I meant. A relatively new "tradition".

Found an old poster for the 2014 zombie walk here that states it was our fifth annual.

So same time as Montreal.

Zombie Walk now most important cultural event ever. Heights of sophistication. Barometer of urbanity.

Listening to The Once and wanted to do this post...

Canada is one of the few Commonwealth countries for whom Remembrance Day is the primary day for honouring veterans and commemorating military service, so it's a much bigger event here than in, say, Australia, where Ayreonaut reports it passes almost unacknowledged.

Part of this is because these places have separate days during which they do most of what Canadians associate with Remembrance Day. There, for example, it's Anzac Day in April. But they still have Armistice Day (what Remembrance Day is known as elsewhere) as well.

Here we have both - our Memorial Day on July 1, which is the larger of the two, and Remembrance Day. Technically it's officially Armistice Day here, but on the street it's referenced and commemorated the same as everywhere else in Canada.

So, a few pictures from across the country of Remembrance Day - and, in our case, both. In tribute to all of the Canadians who have served in the military or supported the country during times of war.

McGill College Avenue. A painfully missed opportunity at having a great terminated vista. Almost as egregious as the Metcalfe fail in Ottawa.

So many great photos from coast to coast on this page! Our cities are leap years ahead of where they were back in the 70's and even 80's.

Now for a change of pace, some pics of mine of Vancouver this summer:

Just a few photos from parkland near the University of Toronto campus in Mississauga, all three photos show the Palace at Granite Gates (2002,24 floors) somewhere in the photo.

To be perfectly honest, stuff that originates in and is rooted in the anglosphere sometimes does take more time to get to Montreal and Quebec.

In this sense, things are often a bit behind on this front here (or even "backward" if that's the only lens people used to judge such things).

Of course, "stuff" from other sources sometimes hits here first, so overall it probably evens out.
