By going full BRT we are kicking the can down the road to the next generation. If we care about the city image, lets do it better than mediocre.
If you build it, more ridership will come. Advertise better to raise the city image and they will also come. Think more in long term!

The Hybrid makes more sense. We have the opportunity to get the funding now, why not get it. It will be the same money out of our pockets no matter which option we choose to build. Maintenance costs will continue to decrease as technology and standard engineering procedures continue to improve. At a point in time they will be the same for both the options BRT and Hybrid! Remember 90% of the time it is not the cost of parts that kills your wallet at the dealership, it is the hourly rate of the mechanics.

The only "shift" is from mediocre to even more mediocre. particularly as other similarly sized cities are upgrading their infrastructure (e.g., KWC: new freeways, expanded freeways, LRT). keep aiming low, London.

Sometimes this city makes me feel like Eeyore.

London has a long history in not having any vision.

- Highway 100 now the VMP could have been built as a eastern side expressway originally if not for the incompetence and lack of vision of the city council at that time lead by Mayor Jane Bigalow. "We don't want the city to grow"

- Where is the zoning for the right of ways for the ring road the city needs eventually? Why hasn't the route been plotted on the map and all current property owners given notice that future expressway will be located here now?

- Why wasn't there routes for BRT/LRT/Subways planned into the city plans decades ago?

Hell the ancient Romans did better long term planning 2 thousand years ago for their cities then we do.

If only we had someone with vision back in 1916 or 1816 who could have planned these things. Today we would honor such a person with parks, roads, buildings named after them,

London has been talking about the Ring Road since I was a kid in the 70s........it will NEVER happen.

Anyway, what's going on with SHIFT? I thought there was going to be a new presentation or review of the old one this week.

Now that Trudeau is about to bring about Phase 2 of his infrastructure program which will be geared for larger multi-year projects like transit, what's happening to SHIFT?

Learning Tool

The City of London should change their mindset and listen to its customers (the people). Here is some training that can benefit any city employee!

It is free and it is world wide recognized.

Don't be silly! The city purchasing and procurement folks would have too many issues with using Open Source or Creative Commons software or materials. It would threaten their jobs and the proprietary providers of training and commercial software.

Can't have that.

I thought, due to many councillors being deliberately mislead on operational costs, there was going to be a new vote or at least a review of putting the main UWO/DT/Fanshawe portion back to LRT. What happened?

Vote after vote, plan after plan for the plan after the meeting for the plan, What the "F" is wrong with the city? When will they get the head out of their behind and do their jobs?

The puppet master should stop pulling the strings and let things get done, this is ridiculous!

I am sure Patrick Brown is for this rapid transit project. Conservatives are big on infrastructure..... However which ever government is in power... they cant give the money if the city isn't ready to start it... so we need the mayor or a mayor to get this project going.

If Conservatives are big on infrastructure, why do we have such terrible infrastructure in Ontario? Not blaming just the Cons here, but the Libs are supposedly wanting to expand our infrastructure, the NDP are always eager to spend money on public projects and (according to you) the Cons love it too. The state of our current infrastructure across the province does not support these three assertions.

Personally I think only the NDP really care (and it's not a priority for them) and they are never in power to affect change anyways.

First of all We haven't seen the full and final proposal of a rapid transit line even come out in London for any government to fund.... Also Just to let you know the liberals have been in power for the last few terms in Ontario not conservatives.

Just to be clear, I wasn't knocking the cons as much as I was knocking all Canadian/Ontario parties. I didn't see the cons doing much to support infrastructure in their time in office up to '03 (except selling away the 407). I don't see much from the liberals until the past couple years (which is very overdue, and hardly a priority since they've been in power for over a decade). Wasn't trying to make this political regarding one party vs the other, just pointing out that all our parties across the spectrum have been failing Canadians when it comes to infrastructure investment.
