I never heard of a tribute video to a proposed project, but life is full of firsts

I don't think something that short can define an already defined skyline. FOR a new tower to define the Toronto skyline it would need to punch above 350 in the core to stand out.

300 metres at that location in the token lake shot is plenty tall enough. It doesn't have the mass of an office tower though.

The design of the tallest tower is busy (not as bad as the Burrard tower), but I guess I'll have to wait to see the actual finished building before I make my final judgement, though I'm not holding my breath for the main tower to look better. I do like the overall project. It looks like a well-implemented TOD for that far out in to the metro area.

It would be so easy to make these residential towers more interesting. For example, bolt a trellis up the side of the building (like Woodwards). Fast and cheap.

Cities in Metro Vancouver should be a lot more demanding. There are very few cities where developers get to sell 300 to 500 units at a time, and all we get back are the dullest buildings imaginable.

You think that trellis was cheap?

A market that can sell 300 to 500 units at a time doesn't need to try that hard.

I'm not going to be hyper critical of buildings being built way out in a suburb of only 150k. It is busy, we'll see how it looks finished, but again...this is Coquitlam.

Population and/or suburb shouldn't matter.

It clearly does though. It dictates everything. It dictates height and the price per square foot that you can charge, which influences the building quality and who you can afford to hire to design the building.

It a tribute for it s beauty and the power of our city.
You know ,beautiful architecture inspire and motivate to go ahead.
Mirvish gehry and 1-7 yonge will bring beauty, excellence and pride
to our city.Except the waterfront, the rest of the city is ugly in term of architecture. I love Toronto and see it more prettier.
We can do better to improve our city.
Thank for your time and comprehension

Height is just a stat. It's not needed to produce exceptional quality. The lower price per square foot also comes with a lower cost for the property land. This building quality here would be improved with a simplified design with probably no additional costs. Same happens in the 905. Cheap convoluted design rules the roost.

Relatively speaking... yeah. This is iron we are talking about here, not copper or aluminum. Lay a 20 gage or so sheet of metal on a plasma machine and it will quickly cut out whatever pattern you've entered into the computer. Hardly any manual labour to produce, and very fast to install.

If it was that cheap more than one tower out of the thousand built around the nation would have these trellises. We can't even get cheap Asian curtain glass to replace window wall that actually has a purpose beyond looking pretty. What's 5% to 10% more to the budget really when it comes to the building's envelope. Worst still are thermal breaks in the floor slabs which would add a negligible amount to a budget but greatly increase the performance.

Relative sure. I've seen a developer select an ugly — light fixture because they saved themselves $5000 across the entire building.

Haven't heard about it in a while... Is True North still a go? Has it started construction or when is it slated to start? Would love to get updates and construction pics when it's up and running....
