There are many airports in the third world where the water fill stations looks a little bit better than that. That said, with the bucket and rag it would fit right in.

Hey, no different than Edmonton's airport, and they don't even have call to gate. Seriously deficient seating count and narrow depth from the gate to the pedestrian circulation corridor.

If you design a public space like an airport correctly, it should trivial to use without having to read the instructions. I would bet that of those people sitting by the gate waiting for a flight well over 70 percent have been to an airport before in the previous 5 years and remember the basics in using an airport.
To be fair, we are still forced to watch a video telling us how to engage and disengage a seat belt buckle every time we fly.

I don't even know if it's fair to call it a disaster. They made a conscious decision to trade pax convenience for increased profits, and succeeded. So really, they did what they wanted to do.
But was it a disaster at other airports when they first implemented it? Probably. Whenever a process is changed like that there is always some pain.

I can't believe how much raving and controversy there is about the CTG system. Geez people, get over it. It's a new system that needs a few kinks worked out, and as others have mentioned it is used at other airports already.

The hate about the wattle filling station I can understand though.

No one is forcing anyone to drink out of the sink. Get a grip FFS.

Also I doubt that bucket is supposed to be in there. Go live in a third world country where there drinking water isn't good enough for our toilets and come back and complain about there being a bucket in that sink.

As a flight attendant, you would be surprised to learn how many people don't have their seatbelt fastened when we push back after the safety demo, or when there is turbulence, or when we are taxing in to the gate upon arrival.

I wouldn't be surprised that people forget or just don't want to. I would be surprised if many such people didn't know how to use the things.

Then be thankful your toilet water is better than what you had growing up and get over yourself. How are you so entitled if you grew up in shit?

Thoughts on a new thread or signature placement:
(A) YYC Call to Gate vs Traditional design, two styles enter one style leaves.
(B) Public water fountain vs water bottle purchase at food court, two styles enter one style leaves.
(C) I place on my SSP signature line "It has been X days since YYC water fountain issues have been discussed.
(D) I place on my SSP signature line "It has been X days since Call to Gate issues have been discussed.

Which option do you prefer?

(FYI this is a light hearted jab at the recent posts on this thread.

People adhering to a CtG system won't gain much traction until the underlying need to rush the gate so people can stuff the plethora of oversized carry-on junk in the overhead bins before they're full is eliminated.

I used the new terminal on Friday boarding a WestJet flight to Vegas. Even though we knew the gate number the CTG system was smooth. The gates used didn't have any seating and the central seating wasn't to far away. WS use of zones went smoothly. To bad we sat in the plane for nearly an hour while they searched for the luggage of the people who chose not to board the flight.

would really like to see Westjet invest in its western hub like AC does with its western hub that is vancouver.

I would like to see Westjet place regular flights on Boston, Washington, and Miami. Those cities see aprx 125k, 130k, 225k west coast pax annually respectively.

Considering 100k pax is all westjet needs for these air routes, and it considers YYC its hub, I'm surprised the cities that already have the math going for them aren't serviced yet. Its only a matter of time now till YVR nets those 3 cities, yet YYC is in the flight path.

Considering WJ and AC are bracing for a price war with new low cost carriers, I hope Westjet is going to pursue expanding its YYC network on air routes with little competition.(I'm thinking here Quebec City, San Diego, Spokane.)

The thing with Westjet now is that they consider Toronto as important (and arguably more so) than Calgary. And for those east cost cities (and so many other secondary US cities, as well as Caribbean etc.) it makes way more financial sense for them to funnel people through Pearson. They are exploiting that hub now more than ever. Calgary still doesn't have a super large O&D with those cities, and Vancouver and Edmonton are the only cities that might make sense to funnel through YYC (other prairie cities make more sense to funnel into Toronto since they are going in that direction to the east coast anyways). But even with YVR and YEG potential to connect in YYC, they still make more sense to channel everything through Toronto. I hope Westjet gives more love to us in Western Canada, but for certain expansion markets, it all seems to be focused on Toronto.

As for Air Canada, they long ignored western canada too but seem to finally be starting to build up their YVR presence at least. Who knows if they will start announcing new YYC routes (i know, this has been discussed ad nausem on these threads...). But there is hope, YVR was not getting much new from them until last couple years either. Now, all changed. Just today they announced daily 787 service to Frankfurt (on top of Lufthansa's daily 747), and 3x weekly Rouge to Gatwick (the 3 flights are pulled from Toronto, who are going from daily down to 4 weekly, so one plane will do YVR 3x and YYZ 4x).

At this point YYC seems more like a large focus city for AC, rather than a hub. Just for a numbers comparison for international service (incl. transborder). From YVR, AC offers service to 36 destinations, 26 of which are operated by widebody heavy aircraft. That's almost 3/4 of flights operated by large capacity planes. From YYC, they offer service to 14 destinations, only 4 of which are widebody heavy aircraft. Those 4 widebodies are 787-9 (x2), 787-8 (x1), and 763 (x1). YVR has tons of 773HD and more frequencies on those 36 routes as well.

Which will happen exactly never, the way air travel is going.

I will happily call to gate, and pass everyone that has been standing trying to angle for position with my credit cards new zone 2 automatic status. An odd perk I didn't know existed but now that I have done it a few times, it makes things so much less stressful.
