The site is being excavated and built in phases.
The gap is where the 2 phases will connect.

Not sure why it was phased- maybe for a construction staging area at grade.

As nearby residents of the Vancouver House development we received notice of some small changes to the heights of the retail buildings under the Granville Bridge. Surprised they have to go through such a process for such a small change in height but happy that portion of the project is moving ahead as it will be exciting to see the space developed.

Here's a quick shot I took today from ground level as I went by on my bike. Quality isn't great, but you can see that they're starting to form the first above-ground floor.

There is a real opportunity for someone to do something really cool there, but I'm not optimistic. A knock down with a lame community garden is probably it.

Unfortunately adaptive reuse is a concept that barely exists in the lower mainland.

Indeed, it would have plenty of patrons from the Vancouver House development. The angular roof over where the gas pumps were would be excellent to enclose and have a dining area or bar/pub, there's room to add on to the structure aswell, theres no need for the parking as there would be pay parking beneath the tower (not that you should be driving to go drinking anyway ) or on the street.

I also like the retro pattern in the cinder blocks. For such a humble material, they made some great designs and varieties back then. I wonder what the extent of soil contamination is, it was built in 1964 after all.
