Nice find pierre...this will be a major upgrade for that block and hopefully attracts some quality tenants.

This will continue the pattern of gradual improvement along St George...lets keep it up!

(just with those power lines could go away!)

There is speculation that the old Co-op building is coming down. A security fence just went up.

Not surprised on this, I know they moved out the remaining tenants earlier this year so the speculation at that time was that they were planning to tear it down.

It's an old building and was not in good shape back when it was still a Co-op.

Definitely a prime piece of real estate being on the edge of downtown and along Assomption Blvd.

I earlier commented that I believed this was going to become a parking lot. I did however notice there is a construction trailer on site - which they wouldn't have for a parking lot. So perhaps a good development?

The tenants seemingly vacated on there own terms because of potential health concerns according to a few employees I personally know.

Since Coop has closed they have had a hard time to lease out any part of the building to anyone for any purpose. I think it might have had to do with the same reason Coop closed there doors Rats, and mold/moisture issues.

Heard several things where supposed to replace the old Coop including parking lot, or a parking garage. But personally I think it's going to be Commercial, and offices.

I know they informed Heritage and the Co-Operators not to let their employees park behind the Co-op last fall because of upcoming demolition. A year later, they are finally starting. Since then, Heritage has purchased/renovated two parking lots on Lutz to compensate. A lot has changed downtown in the past year.

It seems like a lot may still change within the next few years as well.
I had heard, and had to check it out for myself but it seems a lot of Downtown real estate owners seem to be packaging there properties together in the hope developers will purchase the lots, and either renovate (if possible), or demolish what is there, and build all new developments. Talking to a few councilors they did not say for certain but from what I could gather they might be on board for these potential sales, and re-development projects.

Construction is imminent for the new 5 storey $26.5M Centre for Precision Medicine, affiliated with ACRI and UdeM at the Georges Dumont Hospital.



The parking lot in front of the Leon Richard Oncology Centre and the Providence Building will be closed effective November 18th until the summer of 2018. To compensate, some additional parking will be made available at the lot on the corner of Universite & Mountain in the meantime.

While downtown is nowhere the density we would all like...one must admit there has been a steady train of improvement over the last 10 years and continuing now...just remember before that area before mattiott and Blue Cross expansion...

It seems there getting started on the Arches on St George, and Weldon they have the front of the Keystone Physiotherapy removed, and they are getting to work on turning it into a 2 story store front before they reface the entire building.

According to the T&T, the Anglophone East DEC has been having preliminary talks with the Hillcrest parents about combining their school and Bessborough into a new school building. Negotiations have apparently been "positive".

A new school combining students from both existing schools would be about the same size as the Riverview East School or Northrop Fry School (about 650 students).

It would appear that simply renovating Bessborough is not being considered an option.

Similarly, the DEC is being emphatic that any new school has to remain in the neighbourhood and that a Moncton High School type option will never be acceptable.

Any decision regarding the location of a new school however rests with the Department of Education, not the DEC, so it will be interesting to see what sort of pressure can be brought to bear on the government over this decision.

Personally, I still think that the Franklin Yards will end up being the most likely location for a new build.........

I don't get why it took them so long to fill this hole with a new building after the fire. How many plans did they pass up. With the foundations in place thought It does look like something will finally be built there.

I passed by the New Harper Development project next to the Staples on Main Street, and it seems like it might have been another one of his "I'm going for it now... Nahhh Never mind" Not saying that is what it is but all the machines that where parked there no more site prep for the build that was supposed to happen, and he put his "will build to suit" sign back up.

I think he should have taken the offer to sell to sell way back even before Staples was built, and that area would have been developed by now.

Looks like the Humanity Project is getting the remaining funding they need from the City to purchase the former curling club that they've been occupying.
