It is true. One way streets themselves are not the problem. One way streets are very common in major cities all around the world. It is how they are implemented that matters. A six-lane 45mph+ road is not going to be friendly to walk near / across no matter if those six lanes are one-way or two. One-laned, one-way streets are very common elsewhere in the world and they are some of the most friendly to walk along since their narrow-ness & shared street design invites a safe commingling of pedestrians / bikes / cars in the street.
I am fine keeping West Peachtree and Spring as one-way pairs for the time being. Road diets and slowing speeds are a more important next-step to make them more pedestrian friendly. The key thing is transitioning those roads away from being major north-south speedways from cars thru Midtown. 75/85 is just a few blocks over for that purpose.
These changes are needed to support more high-rise development on those streets. Single occupancy cars simply cannot handle that density of people. We need to divert that finite RoW to higher capacity transportation methods (walk / bike / transit).
